Today I purchased this guitar from a young man for $200. I had to inquire as to how it came into his possession and why he was selling. And this is what he told me:

He was stationed in Iraq a few years ago and had left his only guitar back home. He was able to order this guitar ($550 w/ case) from an on-line dealer who shipped it to him in Iraq. He played it for 2 years while in Iraq and brought it home with him. When he got called up to go to Afghanistan he had to rent out his house in Sierra Vista (home of Ft. Huachuca) and put all his possessions in storage, including this guitar. Well after a year he came home and found the guitar had warped and cracked. It could tell he was bummed his guitar had cracked. He put an ad on Craigslist and that's how I came to contact him.

The crack runs from the bridge to the bottom. The back separated in the middle, but closed back up with humidification.

He said he may give up playing guitar. I tried to encourage him and told him we all go through dry spells. Some day he'll pick up the right guitar and his passion will return. I told him to buy another Guild.

I don't really need or want this guitar. I plan on passing it onto a young lady here in Tucson that is learning bluegrass and songwriting. She has an amazing voice and is headed to Bluegrass camp in Nashville this summer. Her father bought her a used Taylor 110, but I'm vying to get a Guild in her hands. But that's another story.

This seems like a golden opportunity for Guild (and Fender I guess) to get some very positive PR and give this soldier a new Guild. I've even considered starting a fund to buy him one. I'm open to suggestions.

Well, Happy 4th everyone. Let's not forget why we celebrate our freedom and those who fight to protect it.

If he'd be interested in another GAD 25 or D125 I'd be willing to chip in. I have an old Ventura guitar that looks pretty, but has a rather subdued sound. It's an "orchestra" shaped guitar. I'd be willing to sell it an extremely reasonable price if he might be interested in that.
