A rather unusual piece, the D-46 was manufactured briefly by Guild in the early eighties. This dreadnaught dates back to 1981 and has a solid spruce top with ash back and sides. The book matched back is showcasing the signature grain of ash. The addition of an unbound ebony fingerboard and bridge, multiple bindings, and a mahogany center strip on the back of the neck, give this model the dressing normally associated with Guild's top of line dreadnaughts. Also notable are the tuning machines labeled "Guild", which you do not see anymore. The ebony contrasts nicely with the blond ash body and pumpkin colored spruce top. Overall, an understated, yet elegant package. The bridge pins were upgraded to ebony which contributes to the understated elegance of the instrument. This instrument is as powerful as it is well balanced. It features scalloped bracing and dovetail neck joint. A splendid instrument. Time has been kind to this instrument and it has faired very well.

Reasonably priced at $850 plus shipping. Comes with upgraded Geib case!

Pics available upon request (I still cannot figure out how to put these things up there).

These are tremendous guitars, surprised that you've had no bites.

I've got one myself, an '81 as well (serial #xxxx319), and it's the one I'll never part with. Nice balanced tone, excellent playability, and very sharp looking, with that ash b/s. The ebony fretboard and bridge are nice, too.

I watch them on eBay when they show up there, and saw one go for $1200 a few months ago.

Anyways, good luck with this one. I think I spotted it on eBay, hope you get a buyer.

Pictures are really a "must" when selling a guitar.

Open a free account on Photobucket, or some other free photo site. Upload your pictures to that site, then link from there to LTG. You don't upload direct to LTG.

I'm looking forward to seeing your D-46.

Ipedl,
I hope you don't mind: here's a link to the eBay ad (with pics) for your D-46.

There are several of us here that sing praises of our D-46s... they have a rich, balanced tone. To my ears, somewhere between the brightness of mahogany and the rich bass of rosewood.

Good luck with your sale!

Every time I see one for sale, I want to buy it, they are that good. If I can buy them all up, then someday when people have come to realize what tremendous guitars they are, they'll have to come to me, ME!!! DO YOU HEAR ME???, to buy one.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That's my evil plan, anyways.

Good thing for the rest of the world that I can't afford them all.

Holy cow! It just sold for an even $1000! The bidding got a little wild there in the last 45 seconds.

Somebody just got a great guitar!
I've always wanted to try one out, but I'd want one like GardMan's with the rosewood "stripe" on the back.
