Yes yes, I know, I got the guitar less than a week ago!

I just got it back from setup and it plays great, nice smooth low action. I love the feel of the guitar, the neck and everything but the SD P90's just aren't for me. Brand new Gotoh bridge was installed at setup. My dilemma is to either sell it, change to different P90's or change to new mini-humbuckers. Before doing a pickup swap and putting more money into it I would rather sell it. I put $50 into the setup and $25 into the new bridge. So I have $875 invested into the guitar.

I will sell the guitar with case, setup and new bridge for $875 plus shipping FedEx with insurance and tracking #. Shipping should cost between $40-50. I figured I would float it out there in case any of my fellow LTGers was interested. If not I will decide from there about the pup changes or possibly trade/sell it to my luthier since he wants to do the P90's to mini's work on it as a project. Any interest send me a message. Will also consider trades for Starfire IV, Bluesbird or D40/D50's in good shape.

*Note: these pics are before the bridge change, but I can make more if you like.*

Let me be the first to pass on the "WTF is wrong with you?" torch.

We've all had our turn with it. May you hold it well until the next person is worthy.

Have you tried adjusting the pickups? They look mighty close to the strings. What don't you like about the pickups?

I had the guitar setup and the pups adjusted in lots of ways. They just sound really shrilly, super hot and ear piercing. I know a lot of people have complained of the same thing with these pups. i want something a little less hot with lower output and less distortion. I am not sure if I am wording that right but thats what I had in mind.

Hi Mojo,

I happen to like the P90's in my Blues 90 but alot of folks share your opinion of them. Fellow bber Andy Hiwatt changed the pups out in his and raved about the results. Here is just one thread he posted on the subject:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=14693&p=153345#p153345

Maybe drop him a PM and have a chat. Personally I wouldnt give up on that Blues 90 so quickly, they are really great guitars.

My .02...... ; )

Last Chance on this one LTG brothers. If no takers by tomorrow around noon, when I head to the guitar shop I will be keeping it and having MojoTone wind me a custom set of P90's to drop in it, unless my luthier gets back to me and says he wants to do the minibuckers conversion per Lollar.

I just gotta throw this out there. You're complaining of the pickups being shrill sounding, and I know you had it set up by a pro, but man I've never seen P90s with the treble end so much closer to the strings than the bass end like that. P90s are kind of chimey to begin with, and I would think accentuating the treble end like that would make them sound shrill.

I know a lot of P90s, especially on the bridge, like to be really close to the strings, but pulling the bass side away from the strings strikes me as a mistake... In my mind (it's scary in there), that setup looks like it might be at least a part of your issue with this guitar.

I'm happy to be told I'm an idiot by those more in the know, but my LP Special was pro setup and it don't look nuthin' like that!

An easy coupla minutes with a screwdriver evening out those pickups and adjusting to taste might be just the thing for you. If you've never messed with it, pickup distance can make a HUGE difference in tone. I've heard $300 boutique hums sounds like ass because they were 1/8" too close to the strings. Seriously.

Edit - is it an optical illusion caused by the carved top? Are the pickups even with the strings?

Hey GAD, the pics here are PRE setup, I will post some more later today. The guy before me had the pups at a funky funky angle and that was adding to a lot of the treble issues.

I'm 75/25 in favor of keeping the P90's since my buddy at Mojotone is going to wind me a special set.

Well, that's a comfort !

Not sure what to do with my Bluesy ...... maybe fit Lollars like Andy H recommends.

You've got me thinking now about replacement mini HB's for my Airline H44. Original p/u's are way hot.

I too like the Lollars, but figured I would take a chance on some local custom wound P90's first, if they didnt work out I could make the more expensive leap for some Lollars. I will let you know how the Mojotone Custom Wounds turn out though, they have a good reputation in the industry for their pups and amp cabinets so I might just luck into a great set up pups for less. I'm hoping they are exactly what I am looking for so I can begin to recommend the local guys to everyone.

Re: FS- 2001 Blues 90-Transparent Black

OKAY! This one is BACK up for sale. New P90's and all. I'll have it back from having them installed in a few days.

There is a 1974 M75CS Burst nearby that I am going to take a look at and if it checks out I am going to have to have it. So the B90 has to go to make way for the M75.

New pups cost $140 for the set and new bridge was $30, I'll include the cost of installation and setup in the total.

$950 total plus shipping/paypal fees.
