Jeff,

2 big ones, actually $1995 plus shipping. A bunch of cash, but a bunch of flattop. It's virtually mint and has a sound all it's own. Man, I love it.

Ohh, It wasn't a steal. Price I have in my head for the 62 is getting pretty firm. I finally figured out how some of those Gaudy gew gaws might be useful. Playing last night in semi darkness & I couldn't see the fret markers, more senior citizen issues. Nice big abalone or mother of pearl inlays would have been a good thing.

No matter, once in a lifetime opportunity, you'll never be sorry.

Jeff,

You know, a few times here at LTG, people have asked what the value of various guitars are. My response has always been, "Whatever you are willing to pay". Obviously within reason of course.

I recently found and played a DV-72 which was new/old stock, also a 1994. The seller was asking $3000. He was a little negotiable on that, but wouldn't have taken less than $2500. It made me feel good about my purchase. But regardless, I would have still been comfortable with the price I paid. I mean, how much is it worth to find a limited edition of 200, that were built 12 years ago in Westerly? They'll never be built again! Not there anyway.

Been smoking any guitars lately? Have a good day Jeff.

Do you have a picture on the site. I may have to spring for one if my eyes get any worse.

I would probably get my F20 inlaid. Dayglo orange with 3d hula girls,
maybe a set of those flashing lights kids have on their tennis shoes.

No I don't Jeff. I'm not the most computer literate person in the world. One of these days when I can get one of my sons to show me how, I'll post some pictures here. :)

Recording

Benee,

I've been thinking on your 3 principles.

I actually wrote a song, 4 verses & nice hooker chorus. Pretty OK, still a couple Buck Owens lines to work out. Some pretty chords, simple but it's a little better than I, IV, V.

Now to record it. I used audio & later video equipment training sales people, very effective, sometimes brutal technique.

I checked the local music hots spot out today & you're bang on the money, 359.00 for the latest recording system utilizing my PC. Salesman's presentation consisted mainly of reading the info on the box to me. I think 16 track? Lots bass & rythm lines built in, lots of guitar effects, most of which I would never need or figure out how to use. Guitar effects must be a cheap addition to manufacture. I think my cell phone even has a few. Funny, they never have the cool ones, like a wah or crybaby.

He was quite familiar with what is was supposed to do but confessed it was a new product & didn't know how to actually use it. He was, however, confident the system would put a reasonable quality sound on a disk.

Do you use your recording stuff much? How do you monitor the live sound and playback? I don't have much faith in 40.00 computer speakers.
How much EQ capability do you have or need?

I'm figuring a guy would need some kind of PA or amp and speakers to monitor what the computer was creating. Very likely I have no idea what is involved, even most likely.

With either computer software or recording hardware monitors can be replaced by headphones. Once you get more sophisticated yes monitors are essential but I don't have any ( they are expensive). If you need to hear what the recording sounds like thru speakers then make a CD of the recording and listen to it on your stereo or in your car.
I would suggest that if you are not computer savvy you do look at recording hardware. For the money you mentioned I do strongly suggest the TASCAM DPFX01. They now also have a model which includes a CD Burner so you have the whole shooting match in one machine.
They do also have an owner generated website which is very very helpful with all questions.
Go here:http://tascamforums.com/index.php?showforum=33
As mentioned I do own one and if I can get it to work anybody can, believe me.
For electric you can plug directly into the machine, for acoustics you will need to mic them ( that's preferable ). Use the same mic for vocals if you plan to have vocals. There are some very decent inexpensive mics available 75-80 bucks that can play both rolls.
The trouble with the expansion of music related activities is the time factor
wherein learning and using the new machine takes dedicated time which then takes from your guitar playing/practice time. When recording though you do get lots of practice in 'cause to play a complete song perfectly, without one flaw takes some doing.
But I will tell you one thing, it is a heck of a lot of fun and hearing your own playing, from your own recording on a CD driving in your car or at a friends place is a real kick.
But remember, like my wife says...,. " That's an expensive hobby you've got there "

Oh I do I use it alot? Not recently 'cause I've been so busy shopping for and buying guitars and practicing my playing that song writing and recording have taken a back seat. Plus like I said I lose prolly 12-13 hours a day, 5 days a week just doing the 9-5 work thing.

Thanks for the background. Very informative. It's right on for what I'm tryin to figure out.

I believe the unit I looked at might have been a TASCAM.

I spent 10 minutes on Craigslist & found some interesting stuff. A nice set of JBL monitors for 200 bucks & several BOSS recording systems for 200 as well. Most everything with all the orginal paperwork. Several with original packaging, maybe not a good sign.

I think I'll stop in at Guitar center next time I'm close by & waste some of their time demonstrating some what they have. If I learn more maybe I can get more bang for my buck used.

How's the new git. A D55 right?, I played one a couple months ago at a shop in Vancouver. I was impressed, "$2000 +, maybe 2499?, I forget exactly. Price got my attention & I successfully recovered from a fit of "I Want it Bad, I gotta Have It",

It was in a nice shop & I think the Guild was the most expensive guitar in the place. For obvious reasons. Just plain beautiful.

I am sympathetic to the amount of time wasted earning a living, it''s a real bother. Last 12 months I have done two projects for pay & both times I was happy when the job was done.
