I am new to the group. I am also new to guitar. Took it up a couple of years ago so I could accompany my daught who plays fiddle-she's 9 and has already been playing for 4 years so I have some catching up to do.

Anyway, I have been searching for that "Right" guitar since I started. I knew the sound and feel I wanted and finally found it in a 1975 Guild F-30. What a great guitar. I traded a Taylor 312 for it and I could not be happier. Now I am a lefty so finding a nice vintage guitar is not easy.

I have had the guitar for a couple of weeks. I would love to get anyone opinion of the f-30 and how it compares to the other Guilds out there. I always keep my eye out for lefties and will probably grab another one if they are out there. Thanks! :D

Congrats on a fine guitar trade and welcome to LTG David! You're in the right place.

A vintage F-30, very nice guitar :D I have a D-25 from '76, seems to me this was a good decade for Guilds. Finding a nice leftie has to be a challenge.

I've never owned an F-30, but I've played a couple. People around here seem to like them particularly for finger picking and my recollection is that the neck profile is a bit thinner than the dreads.

Of course, the only real way to get a fair comparison is to buy one of each. :D There's an affliction known around here as GAS (Guild Acquisition Syndrome). Some of the folks here have it real bad :?

Welcome aboard! Lefties pop up every now and then on eBay, Gbase, or in shops... We'll keep our eyes out for you. Dave

Thanks for all the kind words. I look forward to being part of a great forum.

As far as the GAS is concerned, I have an eye on a 1980s d-40 on ebay right now. A little leary because its a pawn shop. But it has a pretty low price right now.

One problem with pawn shops, is that they don't humidify the room.
If the guitar has been there for a while, it may develop issues related to being too dry.
If the pawn shop offers a return policy, it may be worth trying.
A D-40 would be a great guitar to back up a fiddle.
Older Guilds seem to be prone to needing neck-resets.
Not necessarily more than other brands but I sure see a lot of guilds that either have had a reset or in need of one.
This is the one thing that I would try to be sure of when buying a used Guild.

I agree with that pawn shop statement for sure. We will see how high it goes. I love the one I have, don't really need another at this point. Thanks for all the kind welcomes!

davids, welcome to LTG. I'm a lefty too and have a lefty '74 Guild D-40 since '75. It's good to have you abroad. Did you get your F30 from Jerry's lefty guitars? He had a F30 but sold it recently, was that you? His prices seem really reasonable and he has a huge selection, though not enough Guilds to suite me.
Looking forward to corresponding with you here, this is the best darn forum you're ever find. Everyone is great here!

Welcome David.
I guess you've heard by now that there's no known cure for GAS, so just enjoy it. Although, buying the next one helps a little bit.
As far as pawn shops go, my eBay-purchased D25 came from a pawn shop and it arrived in spectacular, near mint condition. My 12-string was also a pawn shop purchase, so I'd take it one Guild at a time, regardless of where you find it.

Cheers,
Joe

Hi Appalachian Blues-Another Guild lefty, go figure. Yes, I got my Guild from Jerry. what a great guy. I traded for it. I thought it was a bit pricey but he gave me a little bit better of a deal. It is a pristine guitar and I really like it far better than the Taylor. The Taylors are fine guitars, the Guild is just fuller in my opinion.

I find it very challenging to find vintage lefties. I have wanted one for a while and was eyeing Jerry's for quite a while-It was his personal guitar for 25+ years. Anyway, I am always looking.
