Hi everyone,

I found an old M20 put away in my parents house. It has the serial number AH-3xx, which I believe dates it to 1965 (would like one of you experts to confirm this). The serial number is also on the back of the headstock. I have read some people claiming that their fingerboard is rosewood, while others claiming brazilian rosewood. Were there certain years or special models that had brazilian? The condition is pretty good considering it is 40+ years old, just some marks around a couple edges, and a ding or two on the back of the headstock. It sounds and plays great, and I think I will take it home and play it for years. But I was also wondering what something like this is worth these days, as I couldn't find any similar ones for sale/sold online. Thanks for the help.

Hi Scott and welcome: There are several threads here dealing with rosewood; Braz v. East Indian although the discussions are more in terms of backs and sides and not necessarily fingerboards. You might take some time and rummage around; see if you can come to your own conclusion about your instrument. Pics might help BBers give you feeback on 'worth'. cj

Hi,
You will be the envy of people in the forum.
I just got a 1964 m20 in trade for a 2005 Martin all koa slothead and cash.
It was a very good trade.I saw one in not nearly as good condition as mine go for $1200 recently on ebay.
There are many experts here and I await their answers.
Great guitar btw. This is my 2nd one.

I have a '59 M-20 that I absolutely love, its my own version of "Lucille" (the one I would grab if the house was on fire). Not sure of the braz fretboard issue but I watch just about every M-20 that comes up on Ebay. (or as they like to call 'em on Ebay "The Nick Drake Model" ....I hate that  ). I have seen them go for as little as 600.00 and as much as 1200.00, once I believe one actually went for more. Not always dependant on condition either, some of the better ones have gone for the lower amounts. I guess it all depends on the "want-factor" of the buyer. On average I would say they go for around 800.00. Just my own personal observations of "the bay", I generally don't follow Craigs List.

Me too Dan.
I hate that Nick Drake model cr*p!:|
When I had my 1977 m20(in the 90's), I didn't even know who he was.
But now I really love his music-especially "Northern Sky".
We need to start a small Guild thread, with Jeff's permission, of course!
See ya,
Jan
