The output jack on my Fishman Matrix is acting up, basically the signal is cutting in and out, depending upon the position of the plug in the jack.

Does it need to be cleaned?

Does it need to be repaired?

Can it be repaired?

Does it need to be replaced?

Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

If you installed it yourself, and if I understand you correctly, you may need to go back inside the body and router out a
little more so that the female end sticks out far enough from the body giving the jack a better connection.
Hope this helped 8)

This baby's been working for years until recently. Still I may check that out anyway.

How about the cord? I've had the same problem with electrics and using a different cord or cutting off the last few inches and resoldering the plug makes the problem go away.

On the B4-E, which has a factory installed Fishman, I sometimes find that it takes more force than I expect to seat the plug in the endpin jack but that usually means I get no sound and once firmly seated things remain well behaved.

Sounds like it needs a little cleaning.

I use a small bottle brush & some spray contact cleaner that get from Radio Shack. I spray it on the brush, so I don't get it on the giuitar finish, & the run the brush in & out of the jack a few times.

Could also be the cord, either a short, or the plug itself may need cleaning.

I want to brush off the cord thing, but considering the fact that my "newest" cable is a good 7 years old, I should at least pick up a new cable to eliminate that possibiltiy.
All my cords are old and they all have their good and bad days. Since I started doing my own repairs the most common failure has been a break where the cord flexes, in the vicinity of the plug. The annoying thing, of course, is that if you roll or twist the cord, it flexes in another direction and corrects the problem, at least until you move the cord again.

I've uncovered the issue! In comparing the switchjack on my DV4 to the one on the F44, I discovered the latter is missing one of the three metal contacts. I have no idea how/when the other one broke off, but it pretty much explains everything doesn't it?

One slight consolation is that I did one cable (out of 9) that fits snug enough that the signal does not cut.
