Evening Men (and ladies). First post from me on the LTG. I have been lurking and learning since December, '07. Brief bio......55 years old, tool/ fixture designer at Tinker AFB, OK. I took up acoustic guitar during Christmas, 2005. I've had a few lessons, but mostly just noodle around and learn off youtube. Oh yeah, my spelling skills are not the best.

Presently I have three Guilds (all mid-late 90's Westerlys); D-55, D-30, F 212XL. Also have a Taylor GC3 that has spoiled me somewhat. I like the 1 3/4" nut on the Taylor. I have installed wider graphtech nuts on my two dreads after seeing the info here on LTG. I have a hard time playing clean on a 1 11/16" nut....in fact I cannot play an open C without buzzing and mutting around the "b" string. My fingers are shorter than most and bigger than most on the tip pads. :?

I am in heat (GAS'n) for a CV-2 that is listed on Ebay as I like the maple sound of my D-30 and the nut width is a big draw. I am negotiating with the man on the only CV-2 now listed on Ebay. I do not know if it is proper to provide the link so I will refrain. His business is an authorized Guild dealer.

The CV-2 is new with a warranty.......but no warranty will be honored from Guild on the finish. It is a blem that has been reworked to the point that it (blem) is no longer an issue. I am not crazy for the color....but I can over look that if the price is right. I don't understand why Guild would not honor the finish warranty if it has been resprayed/ touched up by the factory or dealer. I honestly do not feel comfortable on this issue.....but from a price stand point I am GAS'n.....................bad.

I have read mostly good about the CV series. I know from expierience that when buying a new guitar you had better plan on keeping it. The value drops the instant you take ownership. Kind of like buying a new car..............it's yours unless you want to feed the economy and go upside down. Been there, done that with an Ovation Elite!

As such, I solicite your advice on this finish issue of non-warranty. Also as to the playability and any other known issues with a CV-2. I appreciate your time in reading this post. I am beholding for everything I have learned so far from you big dogs who post most everyday. Mostly a porch dweller here.

BTW, it is pretty darn hot here. Mowed the yard this evening and it about put my dauber in the dirt! Had to whine about something!

Welcome to LTG... you've got a nice stable of Guilds already. Bound to grow, I am sure! Can't comment on the CV series from experience, but can say that none of my Guilds are pristine. The only one I bought new was my '72 D-35, and it is probably the most beat up of all (I shudder when I think of the way I mis-treated it in my youth). Only you can decide how important the appearance is to you... but you can get a great guitar for less by buying used (few with 1.75" nuts, tho').

We were a cool 98F today in SLC...after 103F yesterday.

Welcome to LTG, Hudley. I visit OKC and Tinker on occasion. I think you actually had it hotter than us here in SC Texas this summer. Lots of folks here are into CV-1 and CV-2 series Tacoma built Guilds. Glad to have you aboard...

Hi Hudley and welcome...... busy couple of days for new arrivals.

Since you've lurked awhile, you may already have noticed that the A-25 is highly regarded by owners, including me. That, and the A-50 both have 1 3/4" nuts....... the only Guild acoustics that I'm aware of that have.

You started learning guitar at roughly the same time that I did....... hopefully you've gotten better than I have !

Thank you for welcoming me aboard. Amazing how a good sleep will clear up issues that were bothersome the night before. I am sure this particular CV-2 is in excellent shape and looks new. The fact that the warranty does not cover the finish is what concerns me. To me, they (dealer and factory) are saying it is most probable that there will be a finish issue in this guitars future and they are willing to discount it now....up front.

My guitars do not have to be mint. I try and keep them clean just in case I re-sell them down the road. I don't really understand the "dripping with mojo" selling point people use, but it sure seems to work.

I have looked for an A-25/ 50 for some time. I cheaped out on the last one I saw. No biggy, the GC3 covers that base.

Anyway, it's not like I need another guitar.....I have four as it is. I'll hold tight and wait.................right!

Welcome to LTG Hudley. Dunno about big dogs, but there sure is a lot of barkin' going on around here at times... :)

I'm not a huge fan of the pristine guitar - from my perspective they're really made to play and during play they get imperfect with dings and wear and what not. I don't want to avoid playing a guitar for fear of putting the first ding into it...

Sounds to me like you're buying to play though, and if that's the case then a guitar that looks like hell but plays/sounds heavenly all at a price that's indecently low - that's the ticket!

Just so long as the melting finish doesn't ruin your shirt...(what kind of finish problems again...?)

IMHO,YMMV,.02 etc...

That'll buff right out.

We say that a lot on our car forum... That pretty much describes this situation.

Ken, how could you? You ATE man's best friend? I think your story about standing in line at the grocery store with the dog food may be true......it really happened didn't it Ken? I thought you Special Operations guys were trained to eat snakes, weeds and bugs.......what did ya have to go and do that for? Beagle burgers, setter spagetti, terrier taryaki........I'm heartbroken!

Not saying I agreed with it all, Westy. Cultures vary around the globe and to turn down a meal in most is to reflect disdain for their society. Sometimes ya just do what ya gotta do...
