Over the last year I've done a lot of home recording but haven't done any for several months. When I gave it another shot last week I found that my M-Audio unit was acting up and my new B-Band A2.2, while it sounds great through the amp, doesn't record too well - or at least I couldn't get it to sound very decent.

So, wanting to do something, I thought I'd give video recording a shot. I did it on the cheap with the wife's Casio Exilim, put a title on it with Windows Movie Maker, converted it to an mpg and uploaded it to the web.

After seeing what came out, I have a greater appreciation of what it takes to actually make something that's presentable! I can tell I need to learn some stagecraft, like looking at the audience rather than my hands, get better lighting, and more attractive surroundings! Of course, better sound quality and, well, just singing and playing better wouldn't hurt any either! But it was fun and I learned something new.

So here it is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSNfibCFDcE. Have at it. I'm a big boy. I can take it ...

I thought it was very nice! You've got a fine voice and I always loved that tune. Thanks for posting it.

Paul - nice job! I agree with the others, you have a nice voice and your guitar accompaniment is spot on. Very pleasant listening - let's hear another.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. I'm off to the Twin Cities to visit the folks for the weekend but will give it another shot next week. I need to get some advice about what others use to record for the web - what type of equipment, whether or not they play plugged in, that sort of thing.

Very nice, Paul! Great sounding Guild, too. Also noticed the Martin Guitar polish on the dresser

After recording it I saw that bottle, too, and wondered if anyone would notice. And it's a collectors' item too - probably at least 35 years old!

One word for your effort, Paul: SWEET!
Great song and a good looking D-50. Looks a lot like mine and sounds good, too. Heck, your 'studio' looks a lot like mine, as well.

Thanks,
Joe

very nice Paul, mellow playing and singing...let's hear and see more! In terms of what to record with, a lot of my friends swear by the flip video. I haven't gotten one yet but it's on my list. The Flip jgm

Not bad at all, Paul! Nice singing, great "time" on the accompaniment! BTW I use an M-Audio microtrack for my feeble attempts at recordings...is that what you have? And if so, what happened to it?

For audio recording I've been using the M-Audio Fast track Pro USB device. Unfortunately I found out after having problems with it that it is not at all on friendly terms with Windows XP Media Edition and keeps disconnecting.

My second problem is that when I switched out my older Fishman Matrix UST to a B-Band A2.2 system, a get tons of noise when recording. Maybe the pre-amp in the BB is just too hot, I don't know. And maybe I just have to play with the settings some more. If someone on the forum uses a B-Band and records and has advice on this, I'd like to know what to do.

lpa- really pretty good. Not "(bad)" at all. Your accompaniment is spot on. New song for me but with Don McClean you can't can't go wrong, and seems to fit your style well.

Sounds like a great song.
