Fender acoustics, did Fender learn anything from Guild?

you're going to take a bath on resale, due to Fender's dodgy reputation with acoustic guitars.
An absolutely valid point! But big-head Strats used to go cheap too. In the scheme of things the big-heads were made for just a short window of time, 1965 to 1981, and are now up in price though nothing like a pre-CBS. If I still had a long life ahead of me I'd make an offer on that set neck Newporter.

Does Fender's haphazard and dodgy history with acoustics have anything to do with the fact that Leo probably didn't give a hoot about acoustic instruments?
Sounds plausible!

I’ve played the all-solid wood Chinese import Paramount PM series dread some years back at the music store in town. These have been the bulk of Fenders acoustic sales for some years now. Kind of kept up with the Washburn all-solid imports. $400-$900 range. All have 1 11/16” nut width, though I think the string spacing may be a tad narrower than what we think of. They have different sizes including OM, parlor and dreadnoughts. Sounds pretty good on the top, but no low end at all even though they have solid backs. Of course I’ve been use to USA and custom shop guitars. Great electronics, probably a good all round performer.

This is like the "Westerly Collection"...And there was indeed a Fender "California Series" of electric guitars which were produced by Fender in 1997 and 1998. The guitars were carved in California, shipped to Ensenada, Mexico for painting, then back for assembly to Corona. So it's all mixed up...
Ralf
And the ones shipped via rail (Southern Pacific) apparently last longer, having been exposed to less heat during transit than the ones shipped by truck.

Well, now that Fender's out of the Guild picture, the important question is WWYS ? (what would Yamaha say??)
