This one is listed pretty much everywhere and it's a beautiful burst. I love that '80s burst.

What would you estimate it to be worth given the worn gold (not a huge deal), the non-original case (minor deal) and the big ol' honkin' dent on the corner (ick)?

I can't find the listing when I search Reverb. Is it still there?
Figure that one in excellent shape will be $2500+, subtract $1-200 for the case, $100 for the wear on the gold, it all comes down to the dent.Without seeing it, hard to guesstimate, but probably $200-$500(?).

Just my initial thoughts.

I could always nab this one which is mint, but it's got Fender HB1s. Ew. :) Still, it's supposedly a 2003 so it would have a neck I know I'd like and I've been very happy with my other Corona Guilds (at least the ones with P90s)

I'd look for an early-mid '90s one -- last of the HB-1s, with the least issues of binding skrinkage, wear and tear, etc. I think you'd like the neck on my '94 -- it's noticeably thicker/rounder than my '70s Guilds are/were.

My '93 has HB-1s.

Having seen the pics now, I'd say maybe $2000-2100 would be good for that example.

Realistically, these guitars, even in mint condition, are difficult to sell for $2500 (speaking from experience). I traded my near-mint X-500 to Chris a while back for a value of about $2200, which is what you should be able to pay for one even though to me they are worth much more. This guitar, with the ding, tarnished hardware, and non-original case to me would be worth $1750 - $1800. Alternatively, you can get a mint X-175, which is the same other than having chrome hardware and less ornate trim, for the same price.

GAD, seeing your P90 Starfire review, I think you might be really happy with an X500T. same Duncan P90's as your Starfire, master volume, Bigsby. Weren't made for very long, not the easiest guitar to find. Came in Gretschy orange, blonde, and sunburst.

Yeah, i'd love one of those or a Paladin. We'll see what happens. It took me years to score the SFIII-P90 I have, so I may just have to be patient.

I hate being patient. :nonchalance:

I'd love one, but in my experience finding Guild electrics of any kind from the early/mid 1990s is a hard task to complete.

I wouldn't mind an X-175, but I *really* like the ebony board and high-end inlays on the 500s.

Ha! I'm not a humbucker person, but on a big box like that, except for Wes-style Jazz tones on the neck pickup, I really don't get humbuckers. always just sounds like an overly thick, woofy mess when I try to play one. With single coils though....!!

Man, you know I like single coils a lot, but my X-700 is not that way at all. It's bright, articulate, jumpy, snappy, got a great middle position and a super articulate, very pretty neck pickup sound. I hate a lot of humbuckers, but I really like HB-1s. Most of those jazz guys are playing with the tone knob rolled way back and stupid amp settings. Knowing how much GAD likes his HB-1 Nightbird, I think he'd be really happy with a regular X-500. (I think he'd like the 500T/500P, too, though, lol)

Hey GAD, I have been looking at X-500's for awhile myself. The first one you listed with the dent has been listed for around a year. I personally wouldn't go higher than $1500-$1600 on it with the damage. The second Corona model you listed I have looked at several times. I don't mind the Fender pickups as I would be replacing them with Duncan Phat Staples anyway. Problem with that one is the price. It was listed on Gbase forever out of the Washington DC area and sold a few months back for $2250 to the person that is selling it now. I love Corona Guild Electrics but personally they are dreaming at the listed price and I even think what they paid for it might be high by around $250 considering it does not have it's Original case or paperwork, But that is just my opinion. There is also a beautiful New Hartford GSR X-500 listed near you on Ebay for $3499 new but Being as it is a 2010-2011 model they may take considerably less.

Here is the link for it.

There was also a member here awhile back selling a nice 70's model X500 for a very reasonable price. I think he still has it listed on Reverb. I think it was originally priced somewhere around $1600 for a quick sale but the price went up after it didn't move. Here is the link for it.

Good stuff - thanks!

For me, it's got be 'burst, and it's gotta be 'burst with some red in it. That one with the damage is the perfect coloring and it's got HB1s, so I think it's damn-near perfect. It would be better with Schallers, but I've learned to let that go (mostly). :) Man, that damage is in a terrible spot, too, though at least it's in a not-too-visible area.

To anyone who's played a '70s or '80s X500, do they have tiny necks like all the other 1970s Guild electrics I've played?

No problem GAD! That neck question sounds like one for Los Angeles if you can get a hold of him. I believe he has 3-4 X500's spanning from the 70's to 80's. As a matter of fact I think he has one of the 70's or 80's models listed for sale in his signature! Best of luck to you my friend and if I come across any other X500's I will let you know.

I'm a big single coil fan, but I have played a couple X-500's with HB-1's and they sounded pretty good to me. They did sound pretty fat but there still was a lot of clarity and twang for 'buckers. Good 'buckers w/ lower output seem to work well in hollowbodies.
