Feeling like spending over a quarter million on an amp?

Who's Dumble, and why is his stuff so expensive? Came up with 9 results on Reverb, all rather pricey.

Alexander Howard Dumble was a legendary boutique amp builder before the very term had ever been used... Robben Ford, Christopher Cross, Eric Johnson and Stevie Ray Vaughan all used Dumbles at some point

First thing that came into my head between when I read the thread title and then clicked on it: "Dumble"...

Joe Bonamassa loves them, he has quite a few which he is using live. He usually travels with 4 of them, two Special Overdrive combos (one with silver and one with a diamond baffle) and two Dumble Special Overdrive heads (one tweed, one black).

Yup, that was my first thought, too. And If you simply can’t decide between the two above listings, as we often say, buy both of ‘em!

I just saw him live a couple of weeks ago and he had multiple on stage:

The other guitarist was playing through Two Rocks.

Speaking of SRV, Reese Wynans was on keys:

Yes, those are 4 of them, but he owns quite a few more.

The Klon is kind of hard to spot!

10 years ago that Klon Centaur Professional Overdrive was part of a full paddle board: (and that is Mike Hickey's foot...)

He was a genius. He was also a bit of a loon.

Mr. Dumble was an astounding individual.
Apparently Mitch Colby (the Marshall guru who owns the Park brand) thinks Dumble was pure genius, and I dig the story of how (supposedly), upon completing a custom amp for Christopher Cross, all he requested as payment was a washer/dryer from the Sears catalog.

For all the insanely expensive, rare and sought-after gear he plays, I've always thought Bonamassa's sound isn't all that remarkable or unique.

It fits what he does and there's nothing  wrong with it, but to stay with Dumble players, it doesnt make me go "whoa?!?" Like SRV's first album or David Lindley's Lap steel or Eric Johnson's very recognizable thing.

But it just wouldn’t be proper to play your half million dollar LP burst through just any ordinary amp. You need a Dumble.
