OK, so it was the day before father's day.

My daughter sang Let it Be on stage, and I had the honor of being her guitarist. Naturally, this was a job for the Starfire.

Enjoy every day you have with her, because that day will never be repeated! Was she nervous?

Thanks all!

She was funny. They're both on stage a lot, and have been since they were little. They're probably in 3-5 stage productions a year. This is the first time, though, that she wasn't singing with either a group of kids with a backing track or over a CD. This was for a "Broadway after School" program that she does, which is mostly kids singing over CDs.

A week ago she thought we were good until I forced her to practice with me, and then she realized that singing with a live musician is a bit different than anything she'd done. We then practiced for about an hour a day until it got where it needed to be.

Neither of my daughters are ever nervous before a show, but this time as I was setting up she came to me, "what do I do if I forget the words? What if I sing the chorus too many times? What if..."

I told her just to relax, and reminded her that we worked out the cues, and I would play based on her, so when she dropped the mic down, it was solo time, and if she forgot a verse to just repeat the last verse, etc. She nailed it. As I had expected, the practicing paid off.

She made history in the program because it was the first time they'd ever had real, live, music.

Those nervous questions are hysterical. Did she not realize that, in all of those cases, she was better off with you than with a backing CD? The CD would just plunge on, after all.

You're a lucky, lucky man. Neither of my children shows the slightest interest in music; it's one of those things that breaks my heart in small ways.

Happy Father's Day all!
GAD, beautiful post. It's nice to see some signs of life sometimes here on the forum. Very tasteful and classy picture to share with us. Wish I was in the audience! That Starfire 4 played solo/electric must have really filled the room nice! cheers!

Heh - I explained to her about the CD no caring if she made a mistake. We had actually talked about playing with a backing track for drums and keys, but opted not to for that very reason. She was just nervous, and we all get crazy when we're nervous.

I'm lucky that both my kids love music, though the older one is getting away from instruments and more into theater, I'm happy that she had five years of saxaphone. Music is good for their brains.

Thanks!

That's the guitar that has the custom-wound pickups in it. I was also playing though the Axe-FX and QSC K12, so I could dial in a nice VOX-type tone that was great. Played the whole thing with both pickups on, and for the solo I played though my hand-built germanium fuzz. The cool thing is that I made the fuzz pedal with my kids, so they even had a part in that. Here's a pic where you can see that we all signed the cover.
