F50 = arched back, yes?. F50 case = arched or flat bottom?

Subject line says it all, but still, I'm compelled to repeat myself!

I recently bought a '73 F50 in maple. The back is arched (and laminated), naturally.

So I looked at the case. It appears to be original and also 'period correct'. It says Guild and has the medium blue interior (kind of the same color as the 'background blue' in the LTG banner at the top of this page!). The top lid of the case has a nice arch to it.
I looked at the bottom and while the interior was well padded, it was as flat as a pancake.

Hmm, is an arched-back F50 supposed to have a flat-bottomed case? Enquiring minds want to know! Sound off, Brothers and Sisters!

I'm guessing that the padded interior is supposed to shaped to handle the arched back, but that the case itself is not arched. It's just a guess, but I imagine they don't have a special case for the arched F50 vs. the non-arched F50R...

An arch in back would make the case not sit well on a floor. That would likely lead to more case tops 'taking a bite' out of their instruments.

All a guess though.

Addressing the Gentleman from Tejas: if it helps, I bought a new, arched-back 1980 F412 w/ factory case; the interior and exterior were flat. J

Wow, a plethora of opinions!

Um, let me see, john_kidder, most of my archtop guitars have archbacks, too. The great majority of those cases have ever so slightly rounded backs, including my 'X-500 sized' DE400 case.

Right now, I'm guessing that some F50 cases have round backs and some have flat backs. Probably depends on year and 'availability within the year' from various case suppliers to Guild.

Thanks, fellas!

I am the original owner of a 1967 F50R and it's case is arched top and bottom. I forgot to add that it of course is a flat top and a solid rosewood arched back

My '76 D-25M is arch-back flat top, but the original case is flat on the back and arched on the top! Go figure...
