Hey guys, I'm basically an electric player ( I have a Bluesbird), but I'm looking for an accoustic just to play around the house. I ran across someone selling a Westerly made F4CE for under $500. Is this a good deal, what are your thoughts on this guitar?

I had one briefly. It is a very shallow bodied acoustic/electric. Its best as a stage acoustic with a pickup. Because of the shallow body, it doesn't have the best acoustic tone; (and the example I had had severe neck angle issues.)
I would suggest the D4 or something similar, which are also available under $500. Its a no frills, full size dread.

I basically agree with AcornHouse, but I'd suggest trying it out if it's nearby before making a decision.

I wouldn't record with mine or use it onstage, but for un-amplified around-the-house playing I find it has charm enough to recommend it. I like it *because* it doesn't sound like a standard dread. I got mine several years ago for around $400.00, so $500.00 isn't out of line, especially if it's in great shape.

If you like it, try making the seller an offer.

I had one for a while a recently sold it. Just like Wileypickett, I tended to use mine around the house just for fun. The 1 5/8 nut was a little narrow for me, but it may not be a concern for others. One thing to watch for is high action. I've played three (only owned 1) but they all had problems with action or bulging behind the bridge. I read on this forum that the F4's were originally shipped out with extra-light strings (one of the few Guild models that did). The previous owners may have strung them with heavier strings...or that may not have been an issue at all. The main reason I let mine go was this it was not the most comfortable to lounge around with. The thin width is great, but the F40 body size made it feel bigger. I bought mine for $400 and sold it for $475.
