I am in the process of shopping online for a used Guild 12 string. I have never seen one in my area of the country. I am far from knowing much about Guild guitars. I would really like to have a nice F512 but I don't think I'll find a nice F512 in my price range. Can some of you with experience with the F212XLCE give me some feedback this model? I am most interested in tone difference between it and an F512/412. Were the F212SLCE's built in New Hartford?

I had one that was built in New Hartford. Really a nice jumbo. Solid mahogany back and sides. I'm not really a fan of cutaways, and I preferred my Corona-built JF30-12, so I let it go. Personal preference mostly. If I didn't already have my JF30-12, I probably would have thought it was the greatest. I'm awful at thinking how to compare tone between guitars. The F212XL is just another great Guild jumbo 12-string. I think they come without the cutaway, too.

I ended up buying a Westerly 1993 JF30-12 on Reverb. The J30-12 seems to line up best with what I was after within my budget (an affordable alternate to a F-512 maple). The guitar was listed in excellent condition. Good quality pictures of the guitar and the questions I asked appear to indicate the guitar is at least in very good condition. I'll post pictures and give my initial impressions when it arrives later this week. I have a Taylor 200 series 12 string now and have never played a Guild. The comparison of the two will be enlightening.

Congrats on the JF30-12! Looking forwarding to reading your review when it arrives. Taylor makes some nice 12ers, especially the smaller body models. I had two Taylors, both 555s, and while they were easier to play thanks to their thinner necks, they weren't in the same league as jumbo Guilds.

Major congrats, Budha! Lots of people swear by those Westerly-made guitars, so you're in good company. If it's anything like mine, you're going to be very happy. Looking forward to pics and impressions!

This is my first Guild and my first JUMBO. My goodness what a big guitar and what a big full sound. Previous owner took really good care of the guitar. I am very lucky to have found it. It's really a great guitar.

The strings needed to be replaced. The only strings I had immediately available are Elixir 80/20 10-47. I'm not sure these are the best strings for this guitar. I'll experiment with different brands. I would think phosphorus bronze or nickel bronze would sound best on this guitar.

Haha! Exactly! There's nothing like a Guild jumbo 12er!

Fantastic! Sounds like a similar previous owner as with my JF30-12. It's just great when you get lucky with a purchase and you get an excellent guitar, especially an excellent Guild jumbo 12er! Major congrats!

My first Guild was a JF30 12-string. Within a month or so of having it, I sold my Taylor jumbo 12.

It was my gateway Guild -- I knew nothing of the brand prior to finding that guitar.

Today -- ye gads! -- I'm up to my neck in Guilds!
