Looked on the Guild site at the specs for the F212 vs F112 and noticed a few things:

------------ Top---- /-----Side----/------Back -------------
** F112: Spruce/Mahogany/Mahogany
** F212: "Solid" Spruce/"Solid" Mahogany/"Solid" Mahogany

Otherwise:
** Depth: F212 is 1/8" inch bigger than F112
** Width: F212 is 5/8" inch bigger than F112

So two questions:
** 1) Is it possible that the F112 has laminate back and or sides?
** 2) Do the minor size differences add up to noticeable difference in tone/sound? Scale is same length, so playability should be same, right?

No laminates in the F112, I'm quite sure. As for sound, I've never players an F212 (without the XL), but I can say that the F112, though not boxy at all, lacks low-end oomph.

I let my F112 go, regretted it almost immediately (I really like the size), and then got it back.

For a time, I think near the end of its run, the F-112 came with a laminate arched back.

My F112 is now a six string (as most of us know) and one of my all-time favorite guitars.
Perhaps it has something to do with the bonding experience of the conversion and the more recent bridge reset, but it's a sweet little Guild. It's extremely comfortable to play and sounds great, to my ears.
This guitar has been through a lot but keeps coming back for more.
A regular Timex variation with no laminated parts, AFAIK. :friendly_wink:
