it could be just me....but i love playing in this key

for whatever the reason, this key seems to really sound beautiful coming out of my guitar

i love the places you can go on the fretboard when playing in this key, and the augmentations are wonderful

i don't sing especially well in this key, so it doesn't have anything to do with my voice

does anyone else find certain keys sound better than others on their particular instrument?

That is a cool bluesy key!

I seem to graviate towards the major keys - I love to pick out a solo in E major. I don't why, it just is.

By the way, what happened to Shemp?

Shemp is dead (do you remember that short when Shemp died...Larry and Moe were really broken up over it....but before Shemp could get into heaven he had to return to earth and convert Moe and Larry. God, the stooges were/are the best).

Seriously, Shemp's on vacation, and my best friend Tommy is taking his place for a bit....Shemp will return....

I'm a G kinda guy, myself. Probably comes from having been in a bluegrass band in a previous incarnation. Also fond of the keys of E and A, in which the F#m chord can show up.

:D Now, That is some good news! 'Tommy' is Rockstar-Pinball wizard cool ( Tommy, Can you hear me?).....but I do miss Shemp already.
We live in this Shempless society...and seeing him here on LTG was a good thing. Without seeing him here...It could be years between sightings! I crave his inglorious return Yoko.
Bring back the Shemp....soon.
Now to that F#m......I seldon go there, but thanks to this, I just did.
I like it. Evocative, melancholy, and moody little bugger isn't it. A good start to a song there.

"Moody" is a good name for it! Speaking of moody, to follow up on Dave's E major/F#m comment, a great song in E that also has a very crucial F#m is Lennon's "Don't Let Me Down". Here is a simple version:

http://www.e-chords.com/chords/the-beat ... et-me-down

There's more you can do with this song, but those are the basic chords. And the riff within the song (and intro):

---------------------------------------
---------------------------------------
-------------9---9----9----------------
-------------9---9h11-9----------------
--------9h11----------------9--12--11-
-0-------------------------------------

F#m is the related minor key to the key of "A"

The chords you could use: Amaj7, Bm7, Cm7, Dmaj7, E7, Fm7, Gdim7

It could also be used in the Key of "E": Emaj7, Fm7, Gm7, Amaj7, B7, Cm7, Ddim7

You can drop some of the 7's if you want.

I play in F#m alot. It's fun using hammer-ons and offs with the open E and A.

Actually, with two fingers blown off you could do a lot more - if you were Django Reinhardt!!
