Encouraging news from Fender/Guild???

A Starfire Electric guitar is now available from Fender/Guild. Wonder if the bess is next? Anyone heard any news?

Since the guitar is a limited edition of 18 it is not clear what the future of Guild electrics will be. Rumor and uninformed speculation suggest that Guild is evaluating the potential for a Starfire electric in production quantities but has made no decision.

As for a bass, in theory if they can make the guitar, then they can make a Starfire bass. There are, however, several things to consider. If they make a special run (GSR) are there 20 people who would buy a new Starfire bass with a MSRP of $4,000 and street price closer to $3,000? Are they going to go for the traditional scale length of 30.5 or the more popular/common length of 34? And most important, what are they going to use for pickups? The closer they get to the Bisonic the more success I expect they will have, but there aren't that many options in production at the moment.

Now on the positive side, at the factory tour last October, I spent some time talking to a Fender R&D person about Starfire bass pickups and pickup positions so someone at Fender knows my opinion :wink:
