This is probably my fault for not paying attention to emails from eBay, but when I was selling a bunch of gear last year that I wasn't using (except guitars) I recall the fees for anything in the "Musical Instruments and Gear" category were about 4%.
I just sold a 20" Sabian HHX crash cymbal for $230 and saw that the fees for the sale was $32 and thought... what? I looked into the selling fees on eBay and see that the only break now is in the "Guitars and Basses" sub-category of "Musical Instruments and Gear" and it is just above 6% now on "Guitars and Basses". Every other type of musical gear (drums, horns, keyboards etc) is in the 14% plus range.
I'm sure it was an update email from eBay I ignored, but had I known the selling fee was going to be that high I wouldn't have let it sell for that cheap.
