Looking into this early Mark V. Wondering if it might be Brazilian rosewood on the back and sides. Assuming yes, but hard to tell from the photo below.

It's hard to tell from that photo. I had a '61 for a while that Hans confirmed was from a batch made with East Indian rosewood, but most of the examples before say 1970 were Brazilian. What is the serial number?

Few more photos. Not the best quality, though. Condition is said to be excellent.

Hoping to check it out tonight, but may have to wait until next week because of scheduling issues with the seller.

To my uneducated eye, it appears to have the hallmarks of braz.
I was going to say the opposite. The dark streaks look more like East Indian to me, and similar to the back on the '61 that I owned.

I certainly have been wrong before though. We need @hansmoust to chime in here, he'll know for sure.

No doubt.

Hans was able to confirm the Brazilian fingerboard and bridge on my 1980 Mark III.

How do you like your Mark V?

I wonder how much the wood difference impacts value. Seems like I could be getting either a good deal or slightly overpaying!

It's a '63, which should be Braz. Beautiful either way!

I love my Mark V, and this is my second one. First was a beautiful '82 that I bought from the @silverfox103 that had a spruce top. Current one has a cedar top, and I like it a tiny bit better.

The wood difference definitely does affect value, but maybe not the overall goodness of the instrument itself. Carlo Greco was known to use his best stash on the higher Mark models.

I always thought Brazilian RW (when finished) had like a root beer color, like my Mark VI and a Mark V, I used to have, where as East Indian had a dark brown color, like the one I sold to Sandy.

Bottom line, I wasn't there when the tree was chopped down, so I'm only guessing.
