Pre-Fender Westerly (as if it makes a difference)

If you know a little about Guilds the statement doesn't add any information, but if you know a lot and are looking for electrics it does become important. Some folks have noted that Fender started winding the pickups for certain models and the Fender versions are not as desirable, sound wise, as the "outsourced" models.

Of course, keeping in your humorous intent, anyone who used that phrase probably does not know about the pickup winding but just remembers the days when Fender gear, "pre-CBS" commanded a premium with used gear sometimes fetching more than a new version of the same thing just because one left the factory before the change of ownership.

Don't forget:

"never been gigged"

"it's worth three times what I'm asking for it"

"my lost is your gain" (type intended :D )

I think it wise to remove my fun poking comments about Guild less I ruffle more feathers ...

Whoops. You didn't ruffle any feathers. I was just observing that for a very small slice of the market pre-Fender actually does mean something. I gotta learn to lighten up when I post.

Yeah ... wassa matta you? FWIW; I think 'Pre-CBS to Fender amps' carries more weight - and should carry more weight - with ampistas than does/should 'pre-FMIC to Westerly Guilds' with Guild owners/would-be buyers .... at least until such time as the ex-Westerly craftspeople decide to tell us otherwise ... Fronobulax,

Naw, no problemo fellow Guild fan. I just realized that the Guild cliches I posted could have spawned a dreaded endless opinion thread about which era of Guilds are better, sought after more ect., that's all. I've seen it all too often on other forums. My editing was to keep it light.

Hey capn - That's a great song from a great era. Back in the day, I gave it quite a few spins on the old record player! Interesting to note that Easybeats guitarist George Young is the older brother of AC/DC's Angus and Malcolm Young and co-produced their first six albums.

Hi Fab; I see that you too are a higher-mileage guy .. Although I shoulda suspected anybody that would do up as Daniel Boone ... at least might be. Don't really follow either of them and didn't know about the EBs-to-AC/DC connection ... I guess all those guys with limited Top-40 success didn't just up one day and say: "Well, that's it ... we can't give our stuff away more ... I'm going into electrical engineering ... " although I'm sure some of them did but interesting to think that some of that energy survived ...

Wow - sounds great - is there a good BIN on that one? Maybe it even still has the original strings.
