Hi Everyone, I just recently got a Guild F-50 with Dtar pickup system and have been having some issues. It sounds like the pickup is cutting out or clipping. The sound is hard to explain it is similar clipping when recording digitally. I can get a recording of it to link to I was wondering if anyone had similar issues.

I haven't had the problem you describe, in fact I've had no problems with my DTAR Wavelength pickup. The link below is to the DTAR forum, where you can pose questions and discussion directly to Rick Turner and the DTAR folks. If you get no joy here, or at least the right kind of joy - there is joy to be had here, for sure - then you might give that site a try.

Dear Exit-Misser,

I've had good luck with the Dtar forum, so I'd go there right away. Mostly Rick Turner will answer, though every now and then, somebody else chimes in.

The only initial problem I had with my Dtar was that the bass part of the signal was too boomy for my 'rig of choice', a Baggs Paracoustic DI and a Peavey Box PA.

Apparently, the preamp is adjusted (at the Factory) so that the low bass and the high treble are both kicked up a bit. This is done with the idea that most Sound Systems & Amps reproduce the Mid sound more efficiently than the Bass and Treble, creating a sound that is 'Mid heavy'. Accordingly, if the pickup is pre-adjusted with 'more' bass and treble, then the 'final sound product' that comes through will be closer to 'flat and level'. The preventive medicine approach to a flat signal, if you will.

I had my luthier pull out the the preamp and adjust the bass down. Then, after he worked on it, there was a sound that was close to overdrive clipping, but it was my repairman's amp, not the guitar. So, it worked fine after that. Oh, the luthier said you need 'one big honkin' wrench' to loosen the nut that holds the preamp/battery tube/signal booster in place.

If you aren't having this problem, then don't worry about it. If you bought your Guitar new, Turner & Company are pretty good about arranging for a replacement, too.

If you want to educate yourself before you ask a question, do a search on the forum under Lock 'n Load. That will pull up all of the Dtar/Guild posts right away. It may give you a possible answer to the question you already have.

Good luck, Harry

Thanks for the replies. I checked out the D-tar forums and found someone describing what sounds like a similar issue. It was bad batteries. I'm going to check that out first thing when I get home.
