Reading on this site about Bonnie's Guild reminded my of my first 212. I was in the Marines and purchased it from a shop/club called the 4 MUSES in San Clemente as I recall. When I got orders for Viet Nam I asked the owner to hold it for me. Knowing how much I loved a 512 with double pick guards played by a guy in a then- local act, ( Hedge and Donna), he ordered a pickguard from Guild and glued it on as a surprise. Problem was, he ordered a right-handed guard and glued it on upside down! Nice guy and a very thoughtful gesture I'll never forget. A few years later I ordered a 512 from the factory with a double guard. What an amazing instrument!
Truly the best I've ever played. As many of them do that one got stolen after 20yrs or so. I eventually got another 512 (1993) but without the extra pick guard and without the magic mojo of my favorite. How are the newer 512s sounding, anyone know?
