Actually, this is all about the dog...the hero.....and the unconditional love that they exhibit. Unlike some of the cougars out there. Steffan

DOGS RULE!
Actually, within my experience they drool.

That said, I have to admit that there are numerous examples of dogs acting heroically in defense of their humans. The cougar story is pretty impressive. My favorite is a friend's old and arthritic border collie who faced down and ran off two dobermans who were menacing an infant in a stroller. Much less dramatic but as a geezer I tend to identify more with the old dog.

As a counterpoint I'm reminded of the story about the old slave-owner who has abusively trained his dog to respond only to his commands...then one day while wolfing down a turkey leg, he chokes...and the dog allows no one to approach him to give aid, steadfastly protecting his master, "to the death"....Rod Serling would have been proud...

That's a touching story. Goldens don't stand much of a chance against cougars. They're bred to have teeth that are rounded - not sharp. But they love their humans ...

My old lab x. never had to save my life like that , but he was certainly a source of strength and support for me during a very difficult time, that was a long time ago, and sometimes I still feel he is by my side....in spirit.. :D Steffan

Few dogs of any breed are a match for a mature cougar.

This thread is reminding me of my Labrador & volunteer slave, Rocky. More than once I had to physically call him off someone he perceived as a threat. Same dog, 20 minutes later could be seen with a crude harness pulling my kids in their wagons & big wheels up & down the driveway.

Good dogs live not nearly long enough. :(

There was another cougar attack on Jan 4, also in BC, on a young boy. The boy's mother whacked the cougar in the face with a towel, and it fled.

A lot of the "attacks" from that particular species would depend on which bar/tavern you select for the evening "hunt."
