Is it just me or does this not seem like a typical factory burst?

It is a D35, and it is a factory Tobacco 'Burst. My buddy has one just like it, a '75.

Flat back, bracing, enclosed tuners, headstock decal = D35.

Sweet. Bet those sound real nice together.
I like the "width" of the gradient on my GAD30EATB, too; it is a bit thicker than your friend's. Of course, your buddy's shows more wood grain, which is also very attractive. No two bursts should be the same but the degree of difference between this one and your friend's is striking.

(Hey, 'nut, hope you're on the mend, eh!)

Dread, your buddy’s looks normal to me. I’ve seen uniformly thin bursts before like that. It’s not like the one I noted where it is thin on top and (overly) thick on the bottom. Sort of like a reverse teardrop that just seems wrong. I guess I’m wondering if this is factory (done poorly IMHO) or a respray?

My uninformed and inexperienced opinion is respray. Front and back of headstock along with back of neck have a pristine finish, at least as far as the photos show. Side and back have a few dings. Looks like a finish crack on front, upper bass side. Crack on lower bout. My first guess is someone resprayed at least the dark finish. Why? Hiding damage maybe (?), but I don't see any other than the crack.
