Business venture I guess. I could see a large media company trying to capitalize on recent events with a huge blockbuster summer movie staring Vin Diesel or The Rock....Lots of explosions, a couple of midnight rendezvous with scantily clad women. Really make a mockery of an important piece of world history. Don't forget your $10 popcorn! :wink:

Seems like a reasonable move to me. If I ran an entertainment company I might even be able to build a franchise on the name - a few movies, a video game or two and perhaps even a theme park ride. I'm not saying Disney would follow my advice, but I can see several ways to use the property, it's implicit connection with the Raid and still keep things respectful. I could see a Black Hawk Down type of treatment succeeding although it is probably a better story to create fictional families for the operators and include a big chunk of training and homelife in a movie - a bunch of regular folks who just happen to do dangerous things very, very well. I think there is a story that could adhere reasonably close to the truth and not be just a testosterone fueled action movie. Given the popularity of first person shooters with a counter-terrorist theme, there is definitely money to be made from a game treatment as well.

All that said, I'm not a real big fan of Disney. There's a reason "Mickey Mouse" is not a compliment unless you are referring to specific Guild PUs from the 1960's.

So then, to the victor belongs the spoils? Nope, it all goes to Disney. :cry:
But yeah, terrible as it seems, ya just can't blame 'em.

Peace

To finish the story, Disney withdrew their application for a trademark on "SEAL Team 6". In addition to the less than positive impression that Disney was trying to profit from the death of bin Laden, it seems that the United States Navy already has similar phrases trademarked and Disney apparently did not want to take on the Navy. (Insert joke about a sea battle between a a warship and a cruise ship here).

Thanks to Frono for the assist.

A quick review of Disney's rank and file;
101 Dalmatians will be loaded on to the Disney Dream with their Commanding Officer Dumbo, in 2 days they will sortie with the Disney Wonder, the Disney Fantasy, and the Disney Magic. Once at sea CO Dumbo will relinquish command to the Task Force leader on the Magic; Mickey Mouse. Second in command on the Fantasy will be Peter Pan. Roger Rabbit will run the strategic air command from the Disney island Castaway Cay.
Sadly we note that Alice in Wonderland, Chicken Little, Cinderella, Hercules, The Incredibles, Lady and the Tramp, Robin Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Mary Poppins, The Little Mermaid, Pinnochio, Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs, and Winnie the Pooh have all opted not to fight and are somewhere between the Magic City and the Canadian border at last report.

All I can say is God help us when Disney gets a hold of non-fiction. Their version of Secretariat's story has absolutely nothing to do with reality. Walt would be rolling over in his grave...

And so would Secretariat.

Well, Secretariat was a Virginia-bred. As far as Onion goes, Allen Jerkens is perhaps the greatest horse trainer ever, and I'm honored to call him a friend.

To clarify, local for me in 1973 was upstate New York and Saratoga was a frequent destination although I went to the Performing Arts Center and not the Race Track.

I worked many meets at Saratoga during my racetrack days Frono. That's where I learned to love the town, but hate it when the meet was on. The traffic is so bad, it's just like Cape Cod between when school lets out and Labor Day. :shock:

I saw many concerts at SPAC in my earlier days: Arlo Guthrie and Judy Collins, BS&T, Peter,Paul and Mary, and even the Irish Rovers. Then, of course there was Ormandy and his band.

Ever go to Lena's? Went there once with my brother to see Dave Van Ronk.
