Sadly for those that have never been around a Type 1 diabetic, there is more myth and ignorance than knowledge that they "know". I had the task of telling my 8 year old daughter that she would have to have shots for the rest of here life as a Type 1..... no fun at all. The cost of the supplies is at times unbelievable and travelling requires extra supplies and lots of explanations. It is no fun so anything that makes their life better am likely all for (said with caution of course)

If anyone can explain to me why a simple post about blood sugar testing supplies turns political...
Be happy to.
Again, if this forum was limited to a US membership only, not only would there be no problem with it, but the tip on getting cheaper supplies would probably even be appreciated by by others, but for those us from, or living in countries, where managing one's healthcare does not depend on whether one can afford it or not, it triggers some serious head shaking in disbelief, and unless you prohibit any input from those people, the "slippery slope" inevitably rears its ugly back end.
I know your intention was generous. It's just attached to a controversial topic, by way of American "exceptionalism".

American exceptionalism? Not even going there. That was the furthest thing from my mind.

Yep, tell folks who lost a friend or relative as result of having to chose between buying insulin and feeding their kids or paying the rent to stop badmouthing America. S'all good 'round here.

Waiting for thread closure... 🍿🍿

walrus

You know, if you are trying to bait a Mod, that is exactly the way to do it.

I'm trying to give this thread more of a chance than usual since @dreadnut tends think it is personal when a thread he starts is closed, whether or not he personally contributed to the offending behavior.

Maybe folks should read https://letstalkguild.com/ltg/index.php?threads/thank-you-ltg.211274/ and consider how their proposed reply contributes or detracts from that and then post, or not.

OK, let's try to clean this mess up a bit, because for some reason, it seems my post initiated a bitter attack which seems to not want to end.
My wife is diabetic and insulin dependent. She is the one who enthusiastically brought the projected bill, capping insulin cost to $35 a month, to my attention, and by sharing it on this post, (seemingly focused on diabetes cost management, no?), I thought many others affected by the disease would appreciate hearing a bit of good news, and not consider it a political derailment as wrongfully claimed (judging by the number of likes I guess my assumption is confirmed).
So in this respect Dread ,I, too, was trying to help (or at least comfort) other members in a situation similar to yours, by bringing them some hope that they might in a near future, be able to treat their disease without the stress of financial duress.
Here you have it, hoping it will ease some's bitterness. But I doubt it.

I deleted the post. It was absolutely not meant to "bait" a mod. Simply an attempt to inject (pun intended) a little humor into a "starting to be close to closing" thread. I thought the popcorn would give it away...

I second that - quit hijacking threads!
But how else will we talk about old DeSoto's and such? My grandmother's had green brocade upholstery. If I recall correctly you and your brother used to stand up in the one your dad had? ;)

It was thoughtful of you to share the info on lower cost supplies. Maybe some members will benefit from knowing. (y)

Mods, please close this thread. I just got a real nastygram about it from one of our esteemed members.

This has gone altogether too far.

I'm going to grab the last word.

I'm going to make a lousy analogy.

In my opinion most of the fires at LTG are caused by two things. One is a post that acts like a pool of gasoline. It just sits there, glistening and may smell funny, but by itself it can be tolerated. Then someone comes along and flicks a match and we have a mess.

I don't like being a heavy handed moderator. So when I see a pool of gasoline I watch it but don't immediately try and clean it up. Maybe it's not really gasoline or maybe the firestarters don't visit the topic. When a match is lit and tossed both the gasoline spiller and the match thrower are at fault but they don't always understand or acknowledge their own roles.

So there are posters who seem to be walking around with a leaky can of gasoline. Perhaps they don't know it is gasoline and think it is woodwind bore cleaner for fretboard cleaning. Perhaps they don't know the can is leaking? Perhaps they know darn well what they are doing? And as long as no one comes along with a match, what's the harm?

The firestarters are a little easier. Most of them have a track record for flicking matches and what saves them is there isn't always gasoline. Maybe they are trying to start fires? (Trolls) Maybe they didn't notice the gasoline?

Why am I subjecting you to this?

If the goal is to prevent fires and self-moderation doesn't keep the gas in the can then Moderation is going to have to be more aggressive. That means threads that are not about Guilds, guitars and music are going to be suppressed. No car stories. No more anniversary stories. No 3D printing unless it is about guitar parts. No recipes. Etc.

I don't think anyone wants that but there may be no other solution.

So think before you post, especially if it is not about the core topics.
