I have the opportunity to pick this up for a fairly decent price. It is not local so I can't look at it but the guy says it is in top shape, infrequently played, no electrical issues.

What do you guys think?

I just sold my black one on eBay yesterday. I owned it since new and had no complaints. I found I perferred the smaller body and the bridge post of a X170. Mine sold for $465 with a new Guild case. Is sold it to a guy win France so with all the fees and exchang rate issues with ebay and paypal I probably lost a little $.

I think if I knew where it was I might bid on it myself. But keep asking questions and asking for more photos, at least as many as might be appropriate for the asking price. If he's asking $150, just buy it! If he's asking $1,000, ask , ask , ask.

Good luck, Graham.

Thanks Jeff. I emailed that guy and it is sold. He says he listed it on eBay with a low reserve and only one guy bid, so he lost some money. :(

I guess for buyers and sellers it's all about timing.

I can get this one for about $700 CAD now, he came down a bit already, delivered which is just over $600 US. Perhaps a bit on the high side but the last time I had a guitar delivered from the US, my D-25 ($512 US) came with a customs/brokerage fee of $120 CAD ($103 US) so it may not be too much on the high side in the end.

My bad, that one IS still available. He wants my payment to clear for 3 weeks before he sends it. :( I don't think so.

Anyone near Portland??

I'm 3 hours North, my Sis lives in Vancouver, Wa just across the river but she is headed to Bend, Oregon for the weekend.

By the way, Portland's Craiglist is currently fairly rich in Guilds:

Being in PDX I check it out quite often, too.

BTW: The '64 T-100 is already gone, but according to the seller, Five Star Guitars in Milwaukie, OR bought it, and is selling it for the same price. It's red sunburst with the silver single-coils.

The Guild Starfire bass is a steal at $750, and the seller just posted again yesterday!

Very nice, very nice indeed. !! A little whipped cream & it'd be good enough to eat.

I wonder what it would play like with flatwound Jazz strings. I know about such things because my instructor has flatwounds on his Heritage Jazz guitar.

Just arrived. :D

Better condition than described, and it was described as being in excellent condition.

I have not plugged it in yet as electricity and drool do not mix well for long.

The black is better looking in person than I thought. It feels very comfortable to hold. Nice acoustic sound as is too.

Now what do I do with it?

Pop open a Molsen's, slap a flat pick up and down the strings, duck walk, and holler:

"Way down in Louisiana close to New Orleans,
Way back up in the woods among the evergreens...

May I suggest a fine product for your black beauty,

So now the questionable questions will start. :(

I'm getting used to holding this guitar and it is a beauty in the hands. Bending strings is fun as well. I think there are round wounds on it and I have some flat wounds en route, so I will change them out when I get them.

I'm new to an amp of any sort and I'm using a Crate 15 until the Roland Cube 30 arrives.

I need to make some notes as I go, because I do have a lot of questions. If you guys don't mind answering them, I'll fire away.

First thing, the low E string. I can't really describe what I want to here. It does buzz just a little but that's not the issue. It feels "flappy", "loose", too low? When I strum, almost every time unless I particularly strum it very gently, the E strings flaps into the frets?? I don't know if this is because of the adjustable bridge or anything. And by the way, is there a right / wrong way to set the bridge and how would I know?

The controls for the PUPs also have me a bit confused, but I'll ask that later.

Thanks

I'm hardly the authority but I think the principle here is to let the pickups & amplifier do the volume, plugged in all ya gotta do is play it clean with finesse, guitar does the rest. Ya want it loud, turn a knob. Wait till ya get the flatwounds, just weems to come natural.
