The gold-tones have a different mounting structure than a typical humbucker, but not too different. The mounting rings are the standard size so you would be able to swap new ones. The reason you would need to do so is that the Gold-tones have three potential mounting holes on each side (one is used on the treble side and two are used on the bass side). It's the standard baseplate you'll see on all Fender-made humbuckers, for example: Fender-made Guild humbucker, Atomic Humbucker. I could be wrong, but I would expect the DeArmond Goldtone to sound a lot like the Fender Guild, just with a different cover. I've heard the Fender Guilds and they sound very nice. All in all, if you do find it necessary to swap, it should be a simple task.
