Dating a Guild X170

Just purchased a Guild X-700 and I'm having trouble placing and dating it. It's this one:

My X700 is 16.5" lower bout, 2.5" deep, no master volume, pickup selector is at the top of the body. Serial # is AK170938. I have tried to find the serial # on :

The guitar was just delivered today. It's not essential that I find the year of manufacture, but it is getting me curious. Oh ya-the store says that it was made in Westerly, Rhode Island in 2001, just after Fender bought out Guild, but they have no proof.

Hello Doug B,

Welcome! Your Guild is a model X-170, not an X-700. An X-700 is a slightly bigger instrument with a 17" wide lower bout.
It's from 1998 and the AB in the model designation stands for Antique Burst, which was the color designation they used for sunburst at that time.

Thanks Hans! You're the first person who got it right. I don't mind if it's not an x700, this X170 is perfect for me with the slightly smaller lower bout and thinner body. I love the sound. Never was very good with numbers!

That's a beauty! Nice burst! 2001 would have put it coming out of Corona, so yeah, 1998 is nearing the end of Guilds made in Westerly. Here's a handy little chart.
