See this which shows an ad for a JS II, JS II fretless, Starfire II and a M-85 II, that looks thin enough to be a solid body. The site dates the ad to 1969 which is a little puzzling because all the basses have Guild humbuckers which appeared in 1970 but are usually expected in 1971 and later. Is the web site wrong? (If so, anyone know if vintageguitars.org.uk is interested in corrections since there are a couple other bass elements that aren't quite right). Is this an ad that came out in 1969 advertising products that were not expected to be available until 1970 or what?

Quite a coincidence that I just referred to that in another thread about the 1965 Starfire Bass:

http://www.letstalkguild.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=24427

Anyway, that ad is not from 1969. It's from the second half of 1971 at the earliest; probably more like from the first half of 1972. But hey ........ if they can show us the magazine that the ad appeared in, I'm willing to change my mind!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

I think the guy who runs the website posts on this forum - I'll try and give him a heads-up.

Let us know. The date when the SF I moved the PU from bridge to neck was during 1966 but a few folks think all bridge position SF I's are 1965 or earlier and cite the site. Also my walnut finish JS II is a '71 originally purchased in early 1972 and well before the 1974 date the site says the finish was introduced. I really like the Guild portion of the site. I think the errors are just the result of relying too closely on the catalogs.

That same music is in catalog #7840 on page E-10 with the JS 2 LS bass. The catalog page shows a fretless one in black in front of the music staff.

Kinda neat bass line, I like the bit in bars 5 and 6.

My parents were professional musicians and so there were a lot of musical themed gifts. One of the house rules was that if the gift had a staff and notes on it, someone had to try and play what was written, at least once. That got pretty amusing. Thus trying to play the background in the ad did make it on to my "to do" list. Glad to know it might be worth the effort.

Wow, sorry for the slow reply on this - I only just saw my IM - thanks Harry

Yes, that advert is from the April 1972 issue of guitar player - I scanned it myself, so not really sure how I got the date wrong - but there you go. Thanks for the heads up.
