Anyone ever change out the cheezy selector switch in a reissue U2 (stacked pots) with a Switchcraft right angle toggle?

I'm looking at the guts of the cheap toggle, & the lugs on the right angle & thought for sure I had it right, but I always seem to have the middle position.

Maybe I just need a good night sleep.

Almost a moment of clarity after taking a break to play a guitar for a few minutes.

The cheezy switch works just opposite a standard 3 way toggle. On a 3 way, center position is both outside lugs in contact with the center lugs. On the cheezy switch, center position is no contact between outer & inner lugs.

Think it's time for bed.

I've rewired one of them, but I had routed a pair of P90's into it, and threw out the stacked pots, so I had fairly standard dual pickup/master vol/master tone in it.

Thing about a typical twin pickup Dano, new or old, is that the combined pickup setting is series wired, unlike most guitars.

Yeah....I was able to get pickup selection this morning, but the center position was really weak.

This is the only wiring diagram I've found for U2's, but it barely resembles the actual wiring of the 2 U2's I have sitting here which I know are stock.

I own two U2's, and it's one of life's greatest mysteries to me, how it is that such a ubiquitous guitar doesn't have a reliable wiring schematic available anywhere !

Or at least, nowhere that I've looked.

After putting it aside for awhile, I finally got back to them over the weekend. After a little research on Dano's series wiring I came across a discussion about them.

Simple enough! Take apart the new switch & rearrange the tabs so that in the center position nothing touches. Now it's an on-off-on SPDT switch that won't wear out like the cheezy stuff Dano used in the first place!
