Their base strings and probably their 2 most popular skus. I think I prefer the 80/20s, From a comparison I just did.

Maybe 80/20 is not as popular as it once was. Don't know. I know it's the original.

80/20 is nice and bright with lots of articulation. But they last about half as long, in my experience.

Yeah, like 2 weeks. Maybe a month. They sound good dead however, which is interesting. I just never leave them on long enough to test. Less finger tarnish vs PB.

In general, I like 80/20 on mahogany and PB on rosewood, Woody. Any thoughts?

I'd be lucky to get an hour or two of aggressive playing. Dead would just thud, no ring whatsoever.

That would make a lot of sense to me, especially if it was coupled with a hog top

Wood, I've always been of the opinion, for me anyway, that I like 80'20s for fingerstyle and PBs for the flat pick. That isn't to say I don't enjoy the sound of fingerstyle on PBs, more of a feel thing with 80/20s. After listening to several of your songs, I can sure see why you'd prefer them.

I say that now really knowing when I'll get to spend much time playing.......I've just found out I've torn a bicep and yet another surgery in a couple of weeks it looks like. These mid 60s aren't for pansies.

I have heard this too Chaz, as a general rule. However, the older my ears get, PB does not sound as articulate as 80/20. IMHO of course.

I’m kind of the opposite. I like that PB adds a touch more bottom end to mahogany, and that 80/20’s add a little sparkle to rosewood. It all depends on the individual guitar however.

You 80/20 users should try Curt Mangan round-core 80/20's - they have this uncanny trick of lifting the mids, almost sounds like you're playing a guitar with mahogany back and sides! I rotate them with John Pearse 80/20's and D'Addario Nickel Bronze on my Gibson Historic 1957 SJ-200.

I hear that, he makes great strings. However, my ears are not very discerning as I age, and D'A 80/20s are $4.95 a set w Prime :)

If I were playing out, I would use either anyone's 80/20's or GHS Vintage Bronze for the gig...but they would have to be changed out soon after or at least before the next gig. Either sound great when first put on, but to my ear, so not last...

(I got about two days out of GHS VB at Kaufman Kamp, very disappointed...)

Wait, WW! I can't find the post where you said you were all done swapping strings - there was no way that was going to last!! :ROFLMAO:
Jeff, I think I can do it now, finally. This is the time it will all work out in a reasonable uncrazy way for me and guitar strings.

I've come to prefer the 80/20's on all my guitars no matter the woods. I will sometimes throw in a set of nickel strings (either nickel bronze or EJ21). The NB are actually phosphor bronze with a nickel plating and I like them but $12 a set is a bit of a deterrent unless I can find them on sale.

Yes, I agree with this, after hearing the suggestion on a different forum.
