Anyone know what are some good replacement tuners for a 1970 D40?

I don't think the originals were three on a plate, but rather individual open gear tuenrs.

If anyone has any idea what the originals were exactly, and how to get some, I'm all ears.

But, short of finding some originals, I looked in my elderly catalog and spotted three:
Grover Vintage Style 14:1 StaTites
Waverly Vintage (out of my price range)
Gotoh Martin Vintage (I think they are stamped with "Martin")

So, probably looking mostly at the Grovers, but not sure if these would fit? Anyone have any idea if they would?

The Grover 18:1 Sta-tites seem to have the right specs, exept for the bushings.
The grover bushing measures 0.344" outside diameter, while the peg holes on my D40 measure 5/16" or 0.3125".

Will this simply mean that they will fit nice and snug on my d40, or will I have to ream out the peg holes with a file or something? (an if so, and ideas on technique to use here?)

Seems much better that hole is a bit smaller than the bushing, and it seems workable, so I think I'll go ahead and order them with the intent on making them fit.

Anyone faced a similar sizing scenario?

Hey Brian,

I just replace the tuners on my 74 D25 (three on a plate) with Grover 18:1 Rotomatics. I did have to enlarge the post holes to fit them, but what a difference. They are sooo smooooth! Pass the butta!

I got the Grover 18:1 Sta-Tites, and I'm slightly widening the peg hole to fit them. Its working great, and they look great, front and back. But, Isnt there supposed to be a washer that goes under the bushing on these tuners?

When you looka t the Grover online catalog, for the 97 series tuners (14:1) they mention that "Wood screws, washers and bushing included". I ordered these 18:1 tuners from StewMAc and there were no washers included. Any functional issues without the washers? Is there any real reason for the washers? Could I even find some if I wanted them?
