There is a D35 about an hour and a half from me on marketplace. The seller thinks it’s between 69-71. Can any of you fine folks help me out? Asking $700 and I’ve asked for additional pics and if the action is good and if the truss rod moves. Assuming “good” condition for the age, and potential of a neck reset, is that a decent price? Comes with hard shell case also.

My 70 D 35 might be my favorite guitar. I have $1400 in it AFTER the neck reset, NOS bridge, new nut and frets. So that price leaves room, in my mind, for some significant work. Certainly I have not played a guitar I'd want more for $1400. You can't create fifty year old wood. Hopefully, no one has shaved the bridge, for it is Brazilian RW and likely unobtainium. I scored one of the two Hans had, and that was seven or eight years ago. I'd probably buy it for $700 needing some work. Don't be so quick to change the three on a plate tuners. They work fine. I say 50/50 someone already has.

Look for a small crack between the pickguard and the neck. No big deal easy repair. Shaved bridge would indicate reset on horizon. If it's playale, it could remain that way for years.....or six months. The thing about 52 year old guitars is that you should plan for the worst. Still, 52 year old wood. Don't be put off if the top has "flaws." Mine is heavily bearclawed. They did reserve cosmetically challenged wood for the cheaper guitars. Has no effect on tone.

Don't expect D 18 bass. A D 35 is very balanced and it's own thing. If you want a Martin, buy a Martin.
