I just picked up a D30 Guild Westerly made and Tennessee Orange in color. I cannot seen to accurately date it, not that it matters but would like to know. It is a sweet guitar, and yes it is ORANGE. I have quite a few guitars and was looking to replace an old D25 I once had.... this really fits me better, what a quality sound. I figure it is a late or last one made there with the serial number not being published.... AD302... Anyone know the SR range of the last D30's made in Westerly?

Thanks

I usually get myself in trouble when I start trying to decipher serial numbers, <snip>. We know from Han's comments that the D30 was manufactured, until the close of the Westerly plant in 2001.

Edit: Is that the complete serial number? Do you have a picture of the label inside the sound hole or the back of the headstock?

Edit: removed erroneous guess, so as not to confuse the issue.

Got some pictures, Tim? I've never seen an orange Guild acoustic.

Hello Tim,

Welcome! Your D-30 is from 2001, the last year that guitars were manufactured in the Westerly, RI plant. Tennessee Orange was introduced as a 'standard' finish on the D-30, in the 2001 price list and consequently not that many D-30s were produced in that color.
The ones that I've seen were all in the very low 2000-range ( last 4 digits).

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

There's nothing wrong with an orange guitar Tim, we welcome you all the same.
Seriously I do like how the white binding stands out on the orange pretty cool......

Thanks to all for the info... i am still in awe of the quality tone, hard to describe but just a solid tone and feel. I have to admit i woudl have prefered a blonde, but this is really growing on me. I have a Martin DM - old, and it has a very wild raw sound but lacks the depth and quality sound of the Guild, I am so happy to once again own a Guild, now i need to locate an old 12-string....I have a few of those one is an AIMS (Japan) hard to find info on it, but it a high quality guitar

Thanks again

One additional question for the experts out there... My D30 has a fair amount of "bear claws" on the spruce top. I have heard that these may be a sign of old growth timber?

thanks
Tim
