I’m seeking information and or back-story on a Guild D25, the serial number of which does not seem to be supported by the “Date Your Guitar” pages of the Guild website.

The interior body label states “D-25 NT”, serial number AD250030, made in Westerly, Rhode Island. The headstock includes what appears to be an inlaid Guild logo along with “D25 25th Anniversary”. It appears to have a (blonde) spruce top and a slightly arched back. The finish is high gloss. Unlike other D25s’ I’ve seen, the tuner hardware is a gold finish.

I’m eager to know more about this model… quality, production quantity, etc. and would be grateful for any insight that can be shared.

Thanks.

Can you post photos? Sounds like a special commemorative D-25 - the date sounds about right for the serial number - 25th anniversary would have been what, 1978 or 1979? Guild built a boatload of D-25's, more than any other model, I believe. It was their entry-level dread for many years. Before about '74, they had flat solid backs with internal bracing and mahogany tops. After that, they went to arched laminated mahogany backs and solid spruce tops (like yours.) The arch-back models with spruce tops have a reputation for being louder than the all mahogany ones which have a warmer tone, both versions have a good reputation around here :D I'm guessing what you have there is some kind of limited run for the 25th anniversary.

But if I'm not mistaken, the AD would indicate a 90's model...let me check. D25 numbers start in '95 with AD04217, she could be a '94.....and with the 25 year Anniversary, it could be commemorating 25 years of the D25, which went into production in '68. Just a thought. Sounds like a nice one.

Don't have info on the SN, but the original D-25 was introduced in '68, so the 25th anniversery of the model would have been '93. Of course, the all-mahogany flat-backed '68 D-25 was a different beast from the spruce-topped arched back D-25s of the '90s.

Oh... and welcome to LTG! Lots of D-25 fans around here, including yours truly. Those arched backs really project! BTW... the "NT" in the model designation stands for "natural top"... as opposed to a stained or tinted top.

Hello Gus,

Welcome! Your '25th Anniversary D-25' was made during 1995. The '25 Anniversary D-25' name is a 'joke' that would do well in 'The Funny Papers' section! It's a good guitar though; definitely not 'a joke'.

Sincerely,

Thanks to all for the unbelievably fast responses. Dreadnut suggested that I post some pictures. Reinforcing the notion that I am often the dimmest bulb in the room, I confess that I do not know how to post image files here.

Hey Gus, to post pics, they have to be hosted on another server. Many folks use shutterbug or photobucket. I use pbase. Then,

(1) copy the URL of the pic...
(2) paste the URL into yor message and add ".JPG" to the end...
(3) highlight the URL.jpg, and then click the "Img" button in the menu bar at the top of the message box...
(4) Preview your post to make sure the image appears...
(5) post...

Wow congrats on the anniversary model! I have a couple of guitars from around the same time period as yours, one of them being a D25. Great guitar with a commanding in your face knock your socks off low end. The archback on the mahogany dread sure can do some damage.

Although I can offer no info on your D-25, I can welcome you to LTG. So, welcome to the Guild family.
