OK, I officially have GAS.

Don't get me wrong, I've wanted one of these for quite a while, but I've concluded that my D25 has to go & this will take it's place. A ways down the road I'm also thinking a Tacoma DV4 or D40 is also in the cards, but I need a reliable and affordable dread that I can take out & use for live stuff... it's gonna be a beater.

I'm kicking myself for letting a really nice looking '87 go on Ebay for $499 just a few days ago. I'm gonna try to be selective and aim for an '85, '86 or '87. The one on Elderly looks pretty good so I've emailed them.

If anyone sees one up for sale & in good shape, give me a shout if you wouldn't mind.

Thanks, Graham.

Have you guys had luck with buying guitars off Craigslist when they're out of your area (i.e. not something you can drive to if really interested)? I saw this one in the Bay Area, but I get the impression people usually list stuff on Craigs when they don't want to deal with the hassles of shipping and/or Ebay.

Disclaimers when you open a Craigslist account discourage out of area transactions, Obvious scams pop up on the Local Cragislist fairly regularly, occasionally disgruntled rants.

Our middle daughter advertised a baby's Crib on Cragslist, out of town buyer sent a bogus (forged) cashier's check for $ 6,000 & followed up with a generous offer to straighten out the error.

None here. Jeff was kind enough to agree to pick one up but when I went to offer the money, the guitar was gone.

I've purchased 2 Guilds from Craigslist. Both sellers from California agreed to ship. Both guitars needing TLC, one an obvious major restoration, the other playable, but needing work...I'm happy with both for the price paid!

Was one of these that gorgeous re-fin you posted late last/early this year? Considering the # of new members, you might want to consider re-posting the pics; stunning workmanship. With the software change and all....

Just committed to buy the '85 that's on the Elderly site. They are trustworthy and they confirmed it's in very nice shape with no neck, bridge, etc. issues so I'm very, very psyched. I'll keep y'all posted, but I should have it within a couple weeks since I'm sending them a M.O. tomorrow.

Well, I just love this guitar. Totally meets and even exceeds my highest expectations, and this is only after playing it for an hour or so thus far. Great low action, amazingly playable neck & frets.... an all around no frills tone monster.

I love mahogany. This baby's a little beat up around the edges, but she seems solid as a rock for such a lightweight dread. Can't wait to get the M1 installed and take her out for an open mic soon. It was bought to be a workhorse, and I suspect it will fill that role fine.

Much as it almost pains me to say, I won't miss the D25. Someday I may get a D40, D35 or another older D25, but for now I couldn't be happier with my arsenal.

Congrats Fungus. Isn't it great to hear that a "stripped" down version loses nothing on the tone side?

No offense but I hear this silliness all the time; "stripped down version" indeed. "Bare bones"; "No Frills"; yada yada yada yada. What's stripped down about an all mahogany guitar with a bone nut, bone bridge, grover tuners, and action smooth as silk?

Yeah, I guess I'm too sensitive in that I too own a D15 but sometimes ya'll beginin' to sound like sum a dim hi n' mightee Taylor dudes. I'm thinkin' a guitar can simply be one fine instrument or one lousy instrument or somewhere in-between. Don't nothin' matter about mother o' pearl or other adornments. They don't mean nothin' atall when it comes to makin' music.

I'm happy you found your D15. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about mine.

You won't get any argument from me, Bikerdoc.

I really use my guitars, which leaves open the possibility of them getting banged up. I don't purposely abuse them, but I pound away on 'em, accidentally bump into stuff with 'em, etc. I also have an all 'hog Martin 000-15 that is as special of a guitar as I'll ever own.

The DV52 is the snazziest and most nicely appointed guitar I have so I'm glad the guy I bought it from used to windmill with it. If I had a DV73 or a vintage Martin D28, I'd be afraid to take 'em of the case. Guess that's the same reason I never want too nice of a car. I park mine wherever I please without any worries!

The Guild D15 I now have is heavenly. Absolutely magical tones... Elderly did a great job setting it up (nice low action). I just got it on Wednesday afternoon and recorded with it on Friday.

God I HATE that when that happens. Don't really hurt my guitars any since I ain't ever gonna sell any of 'em but it sure makes me look like a cluts.
