I'm looking to buy a D25M and I put an ad locally. Someone just wrote me he have a D15. Do you know how they compare? Should I wait for THE D25m ? ;)

Here's a nice thread from our Venerated Member, Dreadnut about that topic:

An important question is are you okay with a spruce top, as many D25M’s are, or do you want the mahogany?

Your choice is not just between the D15 and D25, but WHICH version of the D25, whether you're looking for a true mahogony topped guitar, or the mahogony stained spruce top.

Personally, I like 'em all!

Depending on price and condition of the D15, I'd at least check it out.

Yes I know about the different versions. I never played a D25m flatback nor archback so I really don't have a clue. And they don't show up that often so I guess I'll try/buy what I find locally

Arched-back D-25s with spruce tops are quite readily available, bruno. I'm not 100% sure, but I think Guild probably made more of these than any other Guild dreadnought. Can't speak for Quebec, though. I'd definitely check out the D-15 if I were you. If you like it, and the price is right, grab it.

I found that thread by using a Google "sites:" search like this: "sites:letstalkguild.com d15 vs. d25"

That's not correct. It should be a "site:" search like this: site:letstalkguild.com d15 vs d25.

The forum search has problems with guitar model names (like D-15) probably since they occur so frequently.

I have both the D15 and the D 25 with the stained spruce top ( plus the F15). I have a slight preference for the D 15 but I can't tell you why this is so. Both are great guitars and I gruess it's the archback that makes them so special. This also holds true for the F 15.

I've also started the hunt for an all hog dread. Leaning towards a GAD D125 or the D-120 for use as more of a camp guitar, but have started looking at some D25M and even the D15 if there is one reasonably priced.

Hey, bruno... What's the status? Did you check out the D-15?
No I didn't checked it out for two reasons. In the first place, I was more attracted to the D25-D35-D40 models, and can't afford right now too many guitars (I already have wayyyyyy too much ;) , and two: it was a 1991 and I have an aversion to the late 80s early 90s Guild headstocks. I know it's only cosmetic, but I'm not able to fall in love with an instrument with this kind of headstock. Please forgive me !

I can also understand that. There are only two I’ve bonded with that have that headstock, a F47RCE and now a JF-30. Typically I prefer the older style myself, but occasionally one will overcome this handicap in my mind!

If you are shopping locally, you would be advised to not narrow your search too drastically. D 25s come up every so often, flatback D 25s do not. So look for D 25, D 35, and D 40 guitars. Don't buy a guitar you know you'll have a problem with, like a headstock. Heck. I hate the Eastman logo. Never will bond with one. We all have our pecadillos. Take a guitar with one bad scratch on an otherwise clean guitar. I hate it. Take the same guitar with fifty dings, five bad scratches and finish checking, with the soubdhole battered with pick marks, and I'll love it.
