Last night I took my D-40 to a tech to have some work done on it that will hopefully allow me to play it in the style I am acustomed to(heavy strummer/flatpicker). As it is I cannot play past the 7th fret due to major string buzzing on all strings.I'm having the nut and saddle replaced in order to get the action to where it needs to be for my playing,as well as having the frets dressed and leveled. The nut is too high to suit me as well, causing the strings to set too high above the 1st & 2nd frets.I'm having it set up for medium gage strings so my hope is that when the work is done I'll be able to pull out that great tone that's hidden inside of this guitar.
I should have it back in a couple of weeks and I'll report back as to how the changes affect her.

Well, it's finally done! New nut, saddle, fret dressing, she should be good to go. Just one problem left to deal with: the weather! We got nearly an inch of ice yesterday and last night making travel impossible. So there's no way I can drive an hour away to pick it up until either later tonight or tomorrow night!
Anyway, the tech who worked on my guitar said it is a tone monster! Can't wait to get my hands on her and she what she's really made of.

Countryboy,

I just got a new bone installed on my D-25, along with new tuners and a setup.

Now my tech is saying that it probably needs a fret dressing (leveling, crowning and polishing) and will cost about $120.00.

That sounds steep to me. What did you pay for your fretwork, if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks,

Dave
