Newbie here. Stumbled in after buying a D-30 BLD. A quick look see of this forum didn't turn up many references to the D-30. Phoned the manufacturer to check serial # and was told it's a 1987. They were a little unclear as to the "BLD" designation - thought it indicated pick-ups but there isn't one on it. A buddy thought it might relate to the color, which is a light, light blonde. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Welcome to LTG... as you surmised, "BLD" is the abbreviation for "blonde" (NOT bald!)... The D-30 is similar in most specs to the late '70s early '80s G-37; according to Beesley, the G-37 was discontinued in 1986 and the D-30 appeared (in its place) in 1987 (so yours would be a first year). Both had spruce tops, maple sides and arched (laminate) maple backs. Again, according to Beesley, the D-30 had scalloped bracing (the G-37 did not). Note that earlier G-37s (like mine) have mahogany necks and silk-screened logos, while the later G-37s and D-30s have multi-piece maple necks and the Chesterfield logo on the headsrock (D-30 headstock is "tapered," while the G-37 is the older "domed" or "center raised" style).

Unfortunately, the D-30 is too "young" to be included in Hans Moust's "The Guild Guitar Book"... at least in vol I. We all patiently await (some more patiently than others)vol II. Hans is a regular contributor to the forum, and is a wealth of info. If you have more questions... post them up, and he likely will be able to answer them for you. dave

Thanks all. I have a feeling that I'm going to enjoy this forum almost as much as I'm going to enjoy playing the D-30.

Cheers, Ian

D-30 or G-37 definitely on my 'gotta-have-one list!

Welcome triorm,

Viva Maple :!:

I'm guessing your D30, if it's anything like the maple Guild 6 strings I've met, is a darn nice guitar. Surely pictures would be a reasonable request.

I've not yet met a D30 but I've played 3 different G 37's, two of em stole my heart, the third had been abused, neglected & wasn't playable. #2 lives at my house now.

Couldn't say they are all the same, individual copies I've encountered have a special live feel, strong, bright sound with a muscle vibe that's hard to describe.

#2 love of my life, temendous bang for the buck.
