If it's structurally sound then it should come back in shape unless, the braces were not fully dried before the guitar was built and they warped . Really unlikely, but strange things can happen.

Hello all. Might be a dead thread. but thought id close it out anyway. for anyone interested this is the final verdict I received for Guild UK.

Hi Scott,

Guild USA recently contacted me regarding your Guild D-20 & as I understand you were having some problems with your Guitars shrinkage. I’m sorry that you’ve had to wait so long to get this resolved. The guitar as you may off guessed has dried out slightly. This has caused the soundboard to shrink which in turn has caused the back of the bridge to raise upwards due to the pulling force of the strings.

We’ve had the guitar back for around 2 weeks now and there’s been a great improvement during the rehydration process. This is done by simply soaking the sponge inside the humidifier inside the case which was completely dry upon arrival.

The neck side of the bridge was on arrival – level with the side of the guitar which has now raised upwards around 5mm. The sinking of the soundboard has also raised slightly, however not completely. I wouldn’t recommend pushing this anymore( by adding say a wet towel ) to the process however as this could lead to the glue loosening. The fret buzz towards the bridge end of the fretboard has also been reduced.

Not got it back yet. But when I do am thinking I will probably sell it. perhaps was just not meant to be.

Thanks for all the constructive in put on the thread.

Scott.

Scott, good luck with the resolution.

Not taking sides at all here, but a couple of things. First, mahogany is quite prone to dehydration but the good news is that it sounds like hydration has put it back (mostly) into correct geometry. I have seen that happen myself. If nothing cracked and no bracing was affected, that's good news! Second, it's good you've finally had contact with Guild as I think they've been pretty slammed for staff and help over the last year.

I understand your wariness at this point, and maybe there's no way to make you feel good about this, but hey... Wait until you get it back to see how you feel about it. Good luck.

Aye. Bought it at guitar city in Pearl city Honolulu. But I live in London
Wow…..small world. I lived in Pearl City for years.

By any chance was the purchase at Easy Music? I know the store well.
Regardless, you sure do have the strings pulling up on you!
All the best with Guild.
Aloha
