CV-1...OK, I have one, I love it, it sounds amazing and I may just buy another one with a natural top. Does anyone else have any comments about their CV-1?

I don't own one, but I A/B'd one against a couple of Martins at the Fret House in West Covina, CA a couple months ago. I loved it! Not even looking at the price tags, to bolster our bias, it won easily. Two buddies were with me and they agreed. Congratulations!

I have a CO- 1, & so far I prefer it to the one or two CV 1C's I have come across. Other than the one Bing had in stock I haven't found a CV 1 without the cutaway & electrics. Seems to me the cutaway & D Tar models lose a bit of edge compared to the full body pure acoustic models.

I received another qualified compliment on my CO 1 today. My instructor was late & I was sitting on a bench in the hallway outside his studio picking on the CO 1 this morning. Smitty, award winning seller of Taylors & free lance instructor heard me from across the building & came over to see.

Best as I can remember the quote was "Man, that's a sweet sounding guitar, the acoustics in the hall are piping it thru the whole store."

Recent setup & Lessons may have had something to do with it.

great guitar. i've played both the cv and co quite a bit now, and even versus a martin d-18, taylor 810, and a collings OM2H. it put the taylor to shame, tonewise, sounded what i thought was considerably better than the martin, and sounds different from a collings but i really couldn't say it was better or worse. my thoughts are that it's a botique sounding guitar for $1000+ less

Jeff,

How many times do we have to remind you?
Open your case when you do that, so people can drop the money in! :D

New forum member here. I've been enjoying following some recent threads here and starting to learn about Guilds. Actually grantgsc was nice enough to respond to some of my questions about the CV-1 over at AGF and I'm happy to see more discussion over here at the home forum.

I figure I'll be looking to try out some models soon, though I'm not sure whether there are any shops that stock many Guilds near me. From what I am seeing online, the bigger brick 'n morter stores may stock some GADs and traditional series dreads and jumbos, but contemporaries like the CV-1 and CO-1 are rare. Also, I almost never see Valencias or Aragons listed, but am wondering about how those would compare to the contemporaries. They seem interesting due to the solid red spruce and mahogany combination available at a pretty modest price. Has anyone played these, and if so, what did you think? How do they compare to the CV-1 ands CO-1?

Nice question!! What say ye, Guild brethren? This might be worth a road trip to A/B them and make a report.

Welcome zplay!

CV-1/Traditional

Howdy again. Thanks for the nice words. The CV-1 as compared to the D40 Bluegrass...I have both, as well as a D55. The D40 has the Adi top and is developing into what I think will be my favorite dreadnaught. It gets played a solid 2 hours a day at school and it is opening up beautifully.
I have A/B'd it with my Martin HD28 and there just isn't that much difference between the two. The Martin is a great guitar, and I have a real love for its' sound, but the D40 Guild is a strong voiced dreadnaught as well, and really pumps out the sound. Traditional in every sense of the word. The D55 has a warm strong voice. Different than the D40 because of the Sitka top, and it is just so darned beautiful to look at.

The CV-1 is bright and sings out with a clear strong voice. The bass is just right for this style of guitar. Not as heavy as a dread bass, but very effective. I would say that the CV-1 is more of a fingerstyle instrument, because of its' clarity. HOWEVER, it is a very powerful strumming and lead guitar also. Definately a more "comtemporary" tone quality.

Best wishes...

You go Jeffrey. You've really got me considering taking lessons. I just have to get my schedule adjusted.

My last lesson was from Guildmark. I told him that I knew the names of about 3 chords, played a couple of songs, looked at him while I was playing one, and I asked what these chords I was playing were called? Even Mark said, "I don't know!"

 West

Gee ..... and I was hoping to pick up a few more chords here to round out to a dozen .....

Seriously, thanks for the welcome.

And Oh Boy, grantgsc's reports have me really drooling about the CV-1
and then I hear this tiny voice coming from the smaller, adult part of my brain saying, "Discipline, discipline! Patience, patience! .... Remember the bills!" - I don't how much help I'm going to get for my problem here.

Help abounds here Z. Why just a few months ago I did not own a Guild at all, had barely heard of the brand as a matter of fact. Now I have three Westerlys and am buying one of Dons new Durango B-48s just for the fun of it. Oh and california and Squawk will have me with an electric in the near future and Jeff has me looking for a GF-60. West R Lee, Kentuckblue, Cypress Knee, gee the list goes on and on for help with whatever your problems are. You want a 12 talk with GuildMark, Bluesbird - Coastie........

I still need help with chords but at least I'm gathering enough guitars to practice on. :D

Music 6000 has a new F 30 & F 40 in stock, or rather had, the F 30 is gone.
Very nice guitars.

Uh, oh! ..... Looks like "12 steps" here might be used to refer to the usual distance from the parking space to the front door of the guitar shop.
This could be a dangerous place.

It's actually much worse here, not only is the inventory of most local shops posted but most everything on Craiqslist is discussed as well.

Check out the Guilds of Grot if you want to see an extreme case of untreated GAS addiction. http://www.guildsofgrot.com/

We all aspire to this standard, few can make the grade.

What beautiful, beautiful guitars!!! Thanks for the link.

Despite his state of undoubtedly advanced affliction, the man obviously retains wonderful taste! And if he still lives and breathes, surely there must be hope for others. I feel better already. :)
