Had it been a dovetail I'm sure the tech would just have ripped out all the frets and sanded the thing down and re-freted it. Now that it's basically screwed on I'm curious if they would just do their magic to the underside of the fb extension (which btw sounds like a plausible name for what I'm after). Would save them a lot of work and me a lot of money, I guess. I feel almost temped to give it a go myself, if it's that straight forward.

Edit: There's noone I could have a chat with so the cost for seating the extension at a better angle won't be that high?

So, Sitka, your guitar is not under warranty and you will have to cover the costs yourself? If so, that is truly crappy.
If it were under warranty, then you shouldn't touch it yourself. As to having someone to talk to about the repair, I think it will be almost impossible to find anyone from Guild/Fender, unless you have a special contact in the company. My guitar tech could not get any guidance from the Fender repair shop in Nashville. Locally, you'ld have to find someone very skilled with bolt-on necks and ask him to do exploratory surgery.

By the way, do you like the guitar?

I'm not sure what warranty if any may apply to this brand new instrument I have owned for... don't know how many days - since Tuesday the previous week. Since Fender doesn't allow private imports it's technically bought in the US so some sort of guarantee or warranty would probably apply. Had I lived there as well - no problem, I'm sure. Having it sent to the States for repairs and then sent back... - those guys down in Sthlm having a go at her would probably be less and faster turn-around.

I am indeed very satisfied with the instrument, thanks for asking, and I'm putting together a review I thought I may share with you guys if you'd care to read it. :D Would have hoped for those strings I bought over at ebay to arrive so I can try it out with ph brz JPs too. 80/20s make her sound rather thin I find.

Jonas,

Definitely get a determination if your Willy P is covered by warranty or not first. Maybe not, but worth a try. Hope it gets worked out...they are beautiful in appearance and sound. :D

Keep us posted. Would love to hear your review. :|

Sitka, I don't remember what you said about how you got the guitar
in the first place: did someone in the US buy it for you and have it shipped to you? If that's the case and there is a bill of sale somewhere with an American buyer's address on it, then I'd assume you'ld be covered by warranty. In any case, maybe you should talk with the Guild/Fender store in Stockholm, as they might have ideas for you also.

I do look forward to your review. If your guitar is similar to a CV-2C I played recently, then it's quite an instrument. That one didn't sound thin at all to me(probably had Guild PBs on it). Maybe a bit less bass than the CV-1C, but still rich and full. I might prefer it to the rosewood CV-1 sound but need to wait to get my new CV-1C and see if I can do a side-by-side comparison. I have to say that I think I like the styling on the Willy most of all. - Give us pics too!

I intentionally kept the sellers identity secret but technically he allowed me to privately import the instrument by ordering it through the web via an online marketplace. Should Fender find out he would most certainly lose his certification for selling FMIC instruments. As far as Fender is concerned this dealer has a physical shop in a major US city and I could have bought it on a visit to that city - common destination for airline travellers. Sorry for the cloak-and-dagger but Fender provided me with the script.

Not having played the CV-2 but the Porter would potentially be brighter and more defined due to the choice of wood for the top, bridge and fretboard and the treble bridgepins. In essence these two maple bodied Contemporary Valencias are kissin' cousins though. I too prefer the more subtle and retro styling of the Porter, I must say. But that's merely a bonus. 8)

Hi Jonas,

I just read your review on the other thread, which was a lot of fun.

I understand the reasons for your omission of details about the seller. Of course, as you say, the guitar could have been purchased right at his shop, so the warranty should still be valid. But with regard to the neck repair, I guess the question is whether/or not it makes any sense to try to have your guitar replaced by Fender versus just trying to have a local repair person attempt to correct it at your expense. If it were me, given your location overseas, I'd probably go for the latter.
