Hi Bill: I've never seen anyone get spanked for it. Some real nice pics over there. THANKS!
Hi Al and Bill; you can post links here to other sites no problem but not all sites will let you on via a link. For example, we can post links here to stuff on the Gear Page but if you follow the link and aren't a member of TGP, it won't let you on.

Some familiar names over on the tdpri flashing their Guilds 8)

For another example, I can't view the pictures attached to the post you linked to because I am not a member there.

Same here.... Bill, you're talking about the post from "funkcity" (or something like that), right?

Lots of LTGers over there, eh Bill!?

Gang,
It took me a few weeks to get activated here or I would have replied sooner!

My Guild "Custom 7"
I've now only seen 1 more of these, The one from The Guild Guitar book from Hans Moust.

Guild Custom 7 (circa 1972) = Artist Award + Starfire
A thick bodied Starfire with an Artist Award neck. Great guitar!

Nobody I spoke to at the recent Santa Monica Guitar show had ever seen one.
I bought it new at Anderson Music in Royal Oak Michigan in the early 70s.
Here are some details and pics and an explanation of the customization as I see it. Info below and in attachments.

This one is Amber in color but I was told that they made a few in blond also. Hans know of 6 of these in existence. He owns one...slightly different than mine.
** This model is not found in any catalog or on the web.

Unique features:

Neck: Guild “Artist Award” 5-piece maple and walnut neck
with an ebony fretboard and V-block inlays.
A large pearl inlay with a “CUSTOM 7” engraved headstock.
It features ivoriod-bound neck and headstock. It has a 25.5” scale and 22 frets. 3 piece (bone/ebony/bone) nut

Body: Guild “Starfire” with custom 3-1/8” body thickness
(Most Starfires had a 1-7/8” thick body.) Neck/Body join is at the 18th fret. It features ivoriod-bound body and f-holes
* Master Volume control
* Gold-plated humbuckers
* Gold-plated Grover machine heads
* Gold-plated hardware with hand-engraved gold-plated tailpiece.

Enjoy!

Hey, welcome to LTG, funkcity.

That is a very interesting archie you've got there. I can't say I've ever seen one like it, but my experience is kinda limited on these.

Hopefully Hans Moust will weigh in on this one. Definitely an AA headstock with a custom wording... Yeah, that's cool. Very nice axe, by the way!

Bump for Hans...

Vol. I implies that Carlo Greco made only one of these... However, looking at the pictures, I'm convinced this is not the same guitar from the pictures on page 96 and 101 (hardcover edition). Truss rod cover is different, the pickup selector switch is in a different place, and the bridge is different.

[edit: Maybe I misread Hans' words... In any case, I take it this thing was so expensive not many were built. I wonder how many? I still am pretty sure the prototype in Hans' book is *not* this guitar]

Hey, funkcity, do you have any label details/info visible inside the F-holes?

Hans, what do you think?

That's a sweetie, funkcity! You may very well have the privilege of being the sole owner of one of those jobbies on the forum. I've never seen one either. Welcome to the LTG and thanks for posting pics. :D

Hey, funkcity, do you have any label details/info visible inside the F-holes?

Hans, what do you think?

Hans and I have communicated via email.
His info from a Guild employee was wrong.
They didn't build just one. Hans knows of 6 of these.
And what is stated in his book is wrong.
And his is not the prototype but he knows which one is.
And the Guildguy has seen the blond ones too.

But you won't find any on the web....except mine now! :)
His does not have the vertical ribbon inlays running the length of the fretboard.
His has the pickup switch up top, the master vol where my switch is, smaller humbuckers, a an all-wood non-adjustable bridge
Mine has a logical 1972 Guild serial number... His has some number in the 100s?
His has a star on the pick guard. He never told me the vintage of his.

Back in the early seventies I kept going back the Anderson Music in Royal Oak MI.
After a while I had to have it.
I went back to the store and it was GONE !!!! Such horror.

A few weeks passed and along came my birthday.....and you-guessed-it by brother the bass player had bought it for me! .... and I still have it.

Angelo Primo a Detroit jazz guitarist used it for some gigs here in LA..... He wanted to buy it....but I couldn't let it go.

My truss rod cover is upside down.... How astute of you! :)

I have NEVER had it off and I bought it new. But I did have the custom nut built.
The original one was crap. Maybe the the tech tweaked the neck a bit??

It's funny Ive never really owned what would be standard rock/blues/funk guitars.
No tele, No strat, no 335. No LP Standard or custom

My first guitar was an Epiphone Casino circa 1965...before the Beatles had theirs.
My second was a 57 Les Paul (flat slab) Special single cutaway mahogany with 2 soapbars.
My third was a Gibson Marauder with a humbucker and a single coil with a bolt-on neck
4th was The Guild Custom 7
5th was a Carvin nylon electric CL450 (strange resonances in that one)
I wish I still had the first 2!

At the recent Santa Monica Guitar show I found an old Epiphone Casino in great shape.
It is and was very easy to play this guitar
My 16 yo son the drummer loves playing guitar now...go figure. I said hey try this. He fell in love with it... Deja vu all over again! And of course later we played the import Casino and....it wasn't even close.

He asked me one day...hey dad can you shred?...somewhat startled I said, "well I never could...or maybe I never wantedd to" ? Ha! :)))

I then turned him and his buddies on to Stanley Jordan and Larry Carlton....I don't think they'll be the same after those youtube adventures!

God I LOVE YouTube!! I wish it was there when I was growing up! :)

funk,

Glad you corresponded with Hans about this. Yup, I suppose Mr. Greco's rememberances were not always 100% accurate from these days. In any case, there's no question that's a rare bird. Thank you for sharing the pix with us.

youtube is cool isn't it? Copyright questions notwithstanding, it makes it easy to learn songs the way the performers play them.

Hey Funk, WELCOME ABOARD! and thanks for sharing the pics! The TRC is literally a running joke around here because we DO see it so often. I was almost tempted to say "it was put on upside down on THAT model only", just for a joke, and now, who knows, maybe it really was?! :lol:
