Wow. Quite a history. And quite a lot of money.

[GAD-Edit] Changed title to reflect that this is the SRV guitar for future searching.

One of my good friends used to be John's road manager, and is still good friends with him. He owns a couple of John's old guitars, one being a very nice Collings CJ. He told me he just bought another from him on the way back home from VT recently, but I haven't seen it yet.

I've got a feeling that guitar's not going to sell quickly!

what is the custom special order feature(s)? it just looks like a standard F-412
Hello M.,

At that point in time every F-412 was a 'Special Order' guitar. For the collector (with way too much money) who enjoys these type of details ....... this was the guitar that Stevie Ray Vaughn used during the MTV-Unplugged sessions. Good chance that the sellers are going to jack up the price when they hear about this 'tidbit' of information, so if you're that collector ......... buy it now!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Just normal Grover tuners no? Really cool. I have the record he refers to in letter. My question is why sell?? But i guess, like all of us, you sell guitars and move onto the next. Really cool. Over priced though.

Just normal Grover tuners no? . . .
What I meant is that they go all the way up each side of the crown. I'm gonna guess that Grover didn't have mini-Rotomatics back in those days and that's why so much real estate is dedicated to the tuners (so they'd fit, that is).

Oh wow. How do the sellers not know this. My gosh. Maybe it is worth more.
Only if your'e willing to pay them money, and it might be difficult to prove the SRV provenance.
Neat. The tuners look really weird though, don't they?
I think it's just that the the headstock is a bit smaller than what Guild eventually settled on when the guitar was finally mass produced. Compare the headstock on this guitar:

With the headstock on my JF65-12:

Now that I read this post, you may be right. Those don't look like mini Rotomatics, and I guess It's quite likely that Grover didn't make them back then.

I also need to vacuum up some Corgi hair! LOL

Listing indicates that it’s from Studio-Instrument Rentals, which opened in L.A.(?) in the 60’s. Any number of folks may have played that guitar!

Following standard "Ralf procedure", I think the pickguard photos show a DNA match if you look at the tortoise pattern on the lower part of the pg.

Yikes, I just got Ralf'd by Greg!

I think you're right and even the seam separation, and light mark on the pickguard up by the treble side of the fretboard. still wouldn't pay ten grand for it though!
