I thought that George Straight played a Guild D 100 - the dred with all the fancy carvings in the heel, etc.

I was browsing in a local music store today and saw a CD with a pic of him holding some type of jumbo Guild. It had the cloud inlays, and I was just wondering if anyone knew what it was.

I should have been more observant, I don't remember if it had the big headstock or snakehead. But the high-end G inlay for sure. Black pickguard, inlay around the soundhole.

Just curious.

Does anyone know how George ended up playing Guilds? Every guitar company out there probably wanted George to play its guitar...oh well, I am sure the next Guild Guitar Book will have a story about George's Guilds :D

Two comments....
I've seen him hold a Guild alot, but don't recall ever see him play it
And....I'd hate to see what the back of the poor thing looks like with that huge belt buckle he rests it on

It's self explanatory, George Strait is from Texas.

Texan's are in to that flash & glitter, the bling I guess is the new term. Leastwise all the Texas guitar pickers I know are that way. but then I only know the one.

I too have noticed George doesn't really play much on the guitar, Seems he uses it mostly as a prop. Reminds me of a line from a cartoon strip in Hot Rod Magazine during the 50's 60's. I think the strip was "Temple McFlathead", often quoted: "If'n it Don't Go, Chrome It"!

I realize George is from Texas and likes the bling, but with all the dough he makes from touring, he could've gotten the fanciest Martin, Gibson, or how about having one made in his backyard by the boys at Collings much like Lyle Lovett and the Style 45 Collings I've seen Lyle plays!

You're right though, with that massive rodeo belt buckle he wears, the back of his Guilds can't be pretty!
