My luthier has called me twice in the last week about finish issues and tuner replacement on my 1970 D 35, so I'm just weeks away now after my year long wait. Won't repeat the story, but my neck had the finish sanded off decades ago, so we're going with very light nitro to seal it. The tuners will remain original if they hold, as I believe if it's not broke, don't fix it.

New vintage bridge from Hans, neck refret, neck reset, fingerboard planing, and getting a new nut and saddle. Looking forward to having a dread again. This D 35 is way lighter than the 78 I played recently.

Should be stellar, because I'm so underwater I'll never sell it. I just wanted another old flat top to come back to life, irrespective of the cost.

I bought two guitars during my wait. Funny, you can live with one guitar for a decade, then when you're going to have two, all of a sudden four makes sense.

That's called "Guild Math" (or "GAS Math"), but it's not taught in too many schools.

Can't wait to see pics!

Sounds similar to my experience while my original D50 was spending 10 months in Nashville getting a neck reset. At the time I had two flat tops, the D50, and an '75 F50R (now living with John Kidder). From my sig, you can see what happened, and that doesn't include a bunch of non Guilds!

Yeah, that's what got me into trouble over the years, now I have to cull the herd of most of the guitars that I have collected over the years down to no more than four guitars; all of a sudden four makes sense....:frown-new:

Tons of great Mexican food in NYC (along with the best of every other cuisine you can imagine, and some you can't). Here's my favorite, and it's inexpensive, too!

Shucks. I thought this was about that great Steely Dan album, "Countdown to Ecstasy", one of my favorites of all time. Happy approaching NGGD.

I look at it this way.
The enjoyment I get out of a guitar that has been properly maintained and repaired is well worth the cost.
It is just part of ownership.

Taco Bell! The Bud Light of tacquerias. When your so hungry anything will do.

I think mine is now called Jalapeno Rojo. Used to be El Grunese. Look for the Der Weinerschnitzel building on San Carlos just west of Guadalupe.

Thanks for the tip. Will check it out.

My wife and I recently discovered Caguamas on 1st St - good carnitas. Melts in your mouth. The shrimp burrito ain't too bad either.

Cool Brick!

One of the dumbest things I ever did was to sell my 1970 D-35. I've tried many times to buy it back, but the owner knows how good it is and won't part with it. Can't blame him!

Bring your 35 to Cameron's when you can!

I just picked up my D 35 today and am stunned by how good it turned out. My luthier said it is a special guitar. They did a superb job. Reset, refret, bridge from Hans, nut and saddle. They did a great job putting a thin nitro finish on the neck that had been sanded down to the bare wood ages ago. This is a very balanced guitar with perhaps the most pleasing high end I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Worth the year I waited for it. Pics to follow tomorrow in a new thread. Those early ( Hoboken label ) Westerly guitars were built light for sure.
