CORDOBA MUSIC GROUP ANNOUNCES PLAN TO PURCHASE GUILD BRAND FROM FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENT CORPORATION

SANTA MONICA, CA (May 6, 2014) – Cordoba Music Group, the manufacturer of Cordoba acoustic guitars, ukuleles and accessories, has announced today that it has finalized a letter of intent to purchase the Guild® guitar brand and related assets from Fender Musical Instruments Corporation (FMIC).

“It was important for us to find a great steward to continue the important legacy of Guild guitars,” said FMIC’s interim CEO and board member Scott Gilbertson. “We have found a great fit in Cordoba Music Group, a company committed to quality and with impressive U.S.-based production capabilities.”

“Guild is an iconic American brand with a rich heritage and we’re truly excited and honored to be the ones to move it forward. It’s a great complement to our current position in the acoustic guitar market and provides opportunities for growth in new categories,” said Cordoba Music Group President Jon Thomas. “We will continue to make instruments of exceptional quality in the USA, and look forward to giving one of the industry’s great American brands a new home.”

Sales of Guild guitars will continue as usual during the transition process. Upon finalization of the sale, Cordoba Music Group is expected to begin production of some models in Cordoba’s factory in Oxnard, Calif. FMIC recently announced the closing of Guild’s U.S. manufacturing facility in New Hartford, Conn.

Guild was founded in New York in 1953 by Alfred Dronge and the company’s excellence in acoustic guitar design made the name synonymous with acoustic quality and craftsmanship throughout the ensuing decades. Guild joined the FMIC family in 1995, combining it with modern design to produce new generations of guitars that remain highly sought-after instruments.

Thoughts? I'll admit that I'm not too familiar with Cordoba so I can't give mine.

Individuals can delete posts but not threads that they start. If I wake up on the wrong side of the bed or those darn kids keep messing with my lawn I might very well delete or merge duplicate threads but if things are friendly and the discussion migrates to just one thread, "No harm, no foul".

Veer - anyone know a good joke with the punchline "No harm, no fowl?". All I can think of involve some bizarre nonsensical mix of an AGM-88 and a chicken farm.

You mean the one about the VietNam era casual black market trade between US airbases and local farmers?
The farmer who wouldn't trade chickens for anything but AGM-88's?
It's almost the same as the one about the glee club stranded in the boondocks of Ohio by a broken down bus.
Spying a road leading to a farmhouse, they find a farmer scattering chicken feed in the barnyard and ask him if he might be able to spare a meal.
Farmer says "What can you guys do?"
"We're a glee club, we sing"
Farmer says "No harmony, no fowl".
Ya sure ya don't wanna delete this one?
:excitement:
